More Information on Midnight Sun

midnightsun1Slow news day? Well at least it's an update. To learn more about what happened read Breaking News: Midnight Sun Leaked. You can also find a link there to Meyer's website with the version of the novel she released for public consumption.

November 5, 2008 @ EW:

When you returned home after a grueling tour for Breaking Dawn, you discovered that your unfinished manuscript for Midnight Sun had leaked onto the Internet, and you released a statement saying you were permanently shelving the story. Do you still feel the same?

The funny thing about that statement is I didn't actually write the majority of it. I wrote about three single-spaced Word document pages of just real pain — with sort of a laugh on the end so everything was kind of tongue-in-cheek. And there were lawyerly people who thought it just wasn't a good way to do it. I didn't want to feel misrepresented in the letter and other people didn't want me to be too emotionally vulnerable. So in the end only the one or two sentences written by me seem really jarring, and people didn't get that there was sort of a joke in there. For example the part that's me is where I said, ''If I wrote it now everybody would end up dying.'' But that was a joke! And it sounded so serious amidst all the lawyer talk and I think my fans thought, Wow, she's threatening to kill everyone! [Laughing] I felt kind of bad about that. I never felt any anger, actually. Just a lot of sadness. I mean it was a sucker punch — like someone came up behind you and just hammered you in the kidneys and you had no idea it was coming.

January 29, 2009 @ NY Daily News:

“Nothing’s changed,” a rep for the author confirms to us. “Stephenie has no plans to move forward with ‘Midnight Sun’ at this time.”

But Meyer fanatics can anticipate an upcoming novel. “Stephenie is working on something else at the moment,” the flack reveals. “But she hasn’t announced it yet. It isn’t ‘Twilight’-related. When she’s ready to reveal it, she will. This has been an intense three years for her, and currently she’s just focusing on being a writer.”

As for how Meyer plans to protect her works in the future, her spokesperson says, “She’ll just have to be very selective about where she sends her manuscripts.”

Harry or Edward? Daniel or Robert? Wizard or Vampire?

Harry Potter or Edward Cullen? Who do the fangirls love more? Who do you love more?

Robert Pattinson @ Twist Magazine:

“I think Dan could steal anyone from me. If I were a girl, I’d pick Dan.”

Daniel Radcliffe @ the Daily Beast:

Have you contacted your co-star in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix—Robert Pattinson—to give him any advice about his own sudden fame because of the Twilight films? He was once quoted as saying that if given a choice between himself and you, that girls would choose you every time.

I don’t have his number, so haven’t spoken to him. But I can safely say that his insisting that girls would choose me over him that they would not. That they do not. He is the much prettier and can be much more charming. And he can do that thing of being sultry and sexy.

You’re sexy, Daniel. Come on. Own it.

I can’t!

Yet in Equus you have a nude scene eight times a week. You’re flashing around your Elder Wand for all the world to see.

But I don’t know how to be sexy. Rob can just sort of stand there and look at something and start to smolder. And I just can’t do that. I’m a natural fidget.

Fabio #9 – Rodrigo Santoro

santoro2Today's hottie is the Brazil actor with Italian ancestry, Rodrigo Santoro. If you're a fan of Love Actually then you'll know who he is... Rodrigo plays Karl, the loveable architect with the most adorable nerdy chic glasses.

He was also in Charlie's Angels - Full Throttle and 300 where he played Xerxes.

Gives you a whole new appreciation for that blood and guts movie doesn't it?

santoro1Looking at the IMDB profile of Santoro, all of us are going to be super lucky this year. He's coming out in 5 films in 2009 if they are released on schedule.

In 2004, Santoro was slotted as #9 on People's Most Beautiful List. The way to this man's heart is ice cream with chocolate.

"I love both the sun and the moon, day and night. But I enjoy the day the most because I live in Rio and I can play sports." - Rodrigo Santoro

Santoro can grace the cover of my romance novel any time!

Edward Cullen’s Forbidden Fruit – Twilight Perfume Update

This is an update on the Twilight perfume post I did earlier this month.

The bottle looks like a knock off of Nina Ricci - the color of the perfume is even the same. I don't know if the Twilight perfume has the rights to use the same apple bottle shape, but it doesn't seem likely. The only difference that I can tell is writing around the body of the bottle: "The forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest!" I don't think it's enough of a difference to keep a law suit from happening. I suggest, if you want your own bottle you better hurry and buy one before it gets taken off the market.

Check out the Nina Ricci perfume ad:

The most obvious notes for Forbidden Fruit are lavender and freesia. I am still waiting to hear what the other more subtle notes are. Hopefully somebody knows and can fill me in!

$5 Coupon for Ravenous Romance

ravenousRavenous Romance is an epublisher dedicated to selling well written stories at low prices. They have ebooks and audiobooks, which I think is fantastic! Take a book with you on your mp3 player as you exercise, run errands, or settle in for the evening. Ravenous Romance's current promotion to gain a wider repeat readership is directed toward new readers and first time customers. By sending an email to customerservice[at]ravenousromance[dot]com you can receive a $5 off purchase coupon code. The response time is fairly swift, but not instantaneous. Be prepared to wait a day or so.

You can use your coupon in a variety of ways from applying it to a large order or just buying one or two things. $5 will buy you one novel length story or 2 of their short stories. There is a lot to choose from and everything is well organized - simply browse by category, author name, title, etc to find what you're in the mood for.

I used my coupon to buy sexy fairy tale stories... Spellbound is an anthology edited by Rachel Kenley. I really liked Handsome and Petal. The retelling of Snow White was pretty average, and Beauty and the Beast is a riot. But I will let you know in a full review later how it went. To tell the truth I can't wait to read Sleeping Beauty!

Checkout was easy and required a short registration survey to be filled out. I did not have to enter any payment methods like a credit card or paypal account. Then again I just purchase the one story at time of checkout.

I'm not sure when the coupon code will end, but for a free book, it's kind of silly not to try it out. I would suggest filling the subject line for the email with: New Customer/Reader or $5 Coupon and then in the body of the email tell them you are interested in receiving a code to that effect for their website.

Enjoy!!!

Love at First Kiss

First Kiss Contest for unpublished authors hosted by RWA New England Chapter is an annual event. Based on the article, I particularly want to go and read 'The More I See' because of this:

Her [Mondello] favorite of her own first puckers appears in "The More I See," a novel about a blind hero who must use his hands to find first base.

"I ended up doing this thing where he touches her face to get a feel of what she looks like," Mondello says. "Several of my readers said it had them fanning. It was all that buildup."

I think that's why I'm so drawn to blind heroes and heroines because the other senses like touch get completely revved up before exploding in a series of multicolored sparks. It's very sensuous and explores love and passion in a way not usually thought about in most other romances.

Karen Woodward was the winner of this year's contest chosen by Patience Smith, an editor for Harlequin. The passage comes from her as of yet unpublished historical, Dagger's Destiny. Here's the kiss (minus the buildup sadly).

A look of surprise crossed her face as he tilted her head to the side. Stepping close, he leaned down and brought warm parted lips to her full, soft ones. One arm reached behind her back, encircling her body in a crushing embrace as the other cradled and caressed the side of her face.

What's the best first kiss you've ever read? Share your real life first kiss experience too!

I can't say for books, because I find so many authors write such seductive first kisses, but I will share my favorite movie kiss.

kiss1 When Edward kisses Bella for the first time on screen, is singularly the best silver screen kiss I've ever seen. The catcalls were well deserved. The tension that built right before their lips touched was enough to melt a glacier it was so steamy.

Review: To Scotland with Love by Karen Hawkins

bookreview

To Scotland with Love is about 2 to 2.5 Stars. The rating depends on how well you can stomach the side characters. I personally thought they were annoying and too much. As I go into depth here you’ll see what I mean.

How Sir Blubbering Ravencroft got the gumption to kidnap Venetia, the heroine, is beyond me. He’s weak-willed and weak-chinned with watery eyes, a ton of debt and on the run from a duel. Unfortunately for him, Venetia is a strong woman and quite capable of throwing off his professions of devotion and grabby hands with her deadly brooch pin. Ravencroft in a hurry to place Venetia in the midst of a scandal races them to Gretna Green while telling her that her mother is ill and might be dying… the faster the carriage goes the more certain Venetia is of something not quite right going on and then the carriage tips on the icy snow covered ground leaving them stranded in the middle of North Road. Luckily an inn is nearby.

Venetia’s father, who was the fool to condone Ravencroft’s behavior, however only if she agreed to it, beseeches Gregor MacLean to rescue his daughter. Gregor is angry at the news. He has been Venetia’s lifelong friend and was on the way to meet her for a morning ride. Gregor like the rest of the MacLeans is cursed to always have his anger visible to the world in a most duex ex machina way. His anger takes the form of a snowstorm and the angrier he gets the longer it lasts and the colder it gets. If he can manage to make his way through his own stormy feelings he might just get to her before it’s too late.

Gregor reaches the inn and receives a cool reception from Venetia. It would have been warmer if Gregor hadn’t been so highhanded. This is where the real fun begins as the cast of motley members begin to make themselves known. The first of the lot is a Mrs. Bloom, blind as a bat, is critical of everything and rude beyond bearing toward her servant Miss Platt or Flatt or something like that.

Miss Platt fancies herself abuse, mistreated, and indentured is convinced by a poorly informed Venetia of the girl’s true circumstances that she deserves better. Miss Platt immediately makes goo-goo eyes at Ravencroft or Mr. West as he and Venetia are now the sibling Wests and are Gregor’s charges.

If that wasn’t enough a squire and his daughter arrive at the inn. The daughter fancies herself in love with a farm-boy from back home and doesn’t want to go to London. The squire is decent, but his daughter is a drama queen of the first sort. She puts on airs, snores, and is indecently messy with her belongings in a space meant for one but was squeezing three due to the weather.

It’s a wonder there’s any romance at all considering how much of the time is focused on the side character drama. Somehow Gregor proposes to Venetia, but it’s mostly out of duty and she refuses… she’s long past marrying age at 34 years old and she marries at all it will be for love and Gregor hasn’t proven anything beyond fondness and lust. Will he come up to snuff?

New Moon the Movie – Filming and Release Updates

I've been combing the internet trying to find out more about New Moon, and I am sure many of you are doing the same. I haven't found an official website that will host information about the movie. Which is surprising since I know the script has been written and the actors signed/resigned for the new film. In an effort to learn more I went to Summit Entertainment and checked out their press releases.

From a press release on December 13, 2008:

"Production on NEW MOON is scheduled to begin in the coming months and the studio is planning to release the film towards the end of 2009 or early 2010."

More information on production and release dates was found at Reelz Channel:

If Reelz is right, the movie will start filming in March of 2009 and be released for audience (world-wide?) consumption on November 20th, 2009. That would be fantastic! While I honestly can't say that I love Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) I do look forward to this movie.

One of the things I hope they do is have Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) appear or briefly manifest himself during all of Bella's hallucinations. He could appear over her shoulder scolding her, or hover just out of eyesight and be blurry or ill defined... a menacing guardian angel.

Luckily for Edward fans 90% of the time he and Bella (Kristen Stewart) are separated from each other occurs in a blink of an eye... remember how the chapters became month titles? Not much to go on there - a reckless episode in Port Angeles with Jessica, the idea to refurbish some motorcycles, learning to ride the motorcycles, urge for gory movie, Jacob turning wolfy, more stunts, some cliff diving and wham - back to the hot vampires. 30 minutes to 45 depending on length of film montage... right? right? I hope!

Blog Giveaway: Dara England Style!

Who is Dara England?

broughttolifemediumDara England is the author of the paranormal romance novel Brought to Life, scheduled for release in March of 2009 from Lyrical Press. This will be Dara’s first published novel, although you may have seen some of her short fiction around if you’re a frequent reader of fantasy zines like Allegory and Art&Prose.

Whether visiting medieval style fantasy worlds in her short fiction or journeying through her upcoming novel with a mysterious time traveling duke, Dara is fascinated by magical places and situations. Bringing old fashioned magic into the contemporary urban setting that is the backdrop of Brought to Life was one of the greatest challenges of the novel.

On any given day Dara can be found hunched in front of a battered old computer, typing away at her next manuscript. She is an Internet addict and can frequently be found on line at any of the following locations:

The Giveaway:

The prize is 1 medium-to-large screen print tote, capable of holding your necessities and that includes a book; 3 book marks in fun patterns, 2 fairly large magnets to decorate your refrigerator and hold up notes and pictures with, and 3 tins of vanilla flavored lipbalm keychains to keep your lips kissable soft.

Why is Modern Day Virginity Unattractive?

lilyVirginity in a contemporary novel is particularly frowned on as being unrealistic. Speaking as a virgin in this modern society, I am proof we do exist.

Why is it considered practically a sin to mention you are a virgin? I have even been told not to be proud of my status as one. Why are women and men being so judgmental on those that choose to stay chaste? Why is waiting for the right partner or waiting for marriage deemed inappropriate?

Being a virgin is as natural a state to be in as is the opposite. Experienced or inexperienced should make no difference to the right people. Intimacy is not found only in the bedroom. It’s built out of little moments, secret moments between one soul and another.

I choose to wait because I value it. I do see it as a sign of love to wait for the right man. Call me a hopeless romantic, I don’t care, I’ll be the first to admit it. Others value their virginity for religious or cultural reasons. I know of men who wait for the right woman, and while virgin males in real life are rarer than male virgin leads in romance, they are out there. They do appeal and they won’t always be the nice guy who finishes last.

A woman can be sensual and kind and loving without having given it up. The same for a man. Virginity does not automatically equal to being frigid or a prude. Opposed to heroes and heroines of historical romance, contemporary leads and real life virgins are vastly more knowledgeable... after all there's any number of books, videos, courses, etc. on human sexuality.

Some say that staying a virgin (representing optimism/idealism) is to be on the opposite extreme as a man-hating woman (representing pessimism/cynicism) and that both are just as bad. Based on that I must wonder then if the middle ground, being a realist, is the only type of person to be interested in? I very much doubt that.

Virgin or not, I just don’t see the point in getting emotionally entangled with someone just to stay in the game. Does that mean I think less of those that want to be actively in the game or that my bar for a man is unbearably high and impossible to reach? I don’t think so... all women/men are different, we all have different opinions on relationships and want different things for ourselves. I feel a relationship should be built on mutual attraction and compatibility. Good chemistry in both aspects is easy to spot before you get to the bedroom. If it’s not there why start something that will ultimately fail? Or as a pushy partner might say, lead them on?

I know what I need in a man: sexual appeal, compatibility, and stability. In addition to those needs I would like several other things in a man and yet understand that what I want I may not get. Would I mind if he was a wealthy, charismatic, world trotter that was impossibly arrogant with a tender side devoted just to me? Not at all, but I’m not holding my breath on the chance that I'll score the next (Harlequin) billionaire.

As a virgin with limited relationships, I don’t feel that I lack the life experiences necessary to spot a prince. Frogs and toads can be avoided without having to kiss them first. Princes can be missed while being distracted by frogs. Ultimately, what I most hear as a virgin on 'game' advice is this: if you're not shopping around how will you know what fits and doesn’t fit? Shouldn't you at least check him out in the changing rooms? The answer I have for that is my gut reaction, inner instinct, or women’s intuition. Call it what you will.

I’m tired of being thought of as every parents’ dream, many an experienced woman’s object of scorn or pity, and every man’s worst nightmare. Virginity has merit; it’s time society remembered that.
