Myth: Romance heroines are just another version of the beauty myth.

First I ever heard of a beauty myth. I read so many plain Janes, heroines unconcerned about looks, heroines who never wear makeup, etc. Perhaps there's more of an argument for male beauty, strength, and virility?

In the sense, her sexual pleasure becomes a reward for her previous sexual morality.

TBR Pile Busting Challenge: Reading Categories

TBR pile overwhelming? Too many categories to count? Participate in your own personal RCRC! This challenge will be tough, but it will be fun! Let’s get some romances read!

Goal: To read 30 (new to you) category romances in one month.

Break down: 1 category romance per day for 30 days.

Extra Blogger Goal: Review each book for this challenge and post before next day. Normal readers are welcome to share their thoughts during the challenge. Simply click the submit review button above and tell us about the book!

rcrcCan you do it? Join in by taking this button and posting it on your blog and/or by leaving a comment below! Prize for 1 person who completes challenge: box of gently read categories, assorted. To be eligible must submit 3 reviews or link me to 3 reviews in November 2009.

5 Tips to Stay on Target:

  1. Block reading time. Many people say you can read a category in a few hours. Set aside at least 3 hours in your day. I suggest when you first wake up (get up early if you have to), during/around lunch time, and an hour before you turn off the light.
  2. Carry book with you. If you can’t get block time, carry your category with you. I bet you’ll be surprised how fast you whip through it with all those spare minutes here and there throughout the day.
  3. Change it up. Switch category romance lines regularly to keep interest. You can still be diverse reading category!
  4. Stick to one line. If you find yourself breezing through the categories of a certain line and you’re enjoying them, stick with it, don’t switch lines unless you want to, go with what is working.
  5. Keep notes. This one is for bloggers. If you keep notes while you read, say on a piece of paper that you use as a bookmark, you’re review will be that much quicker and easier to put up.

Good luck!

***Please note that this challenge was designed in mind to help crank through books already in a fairly large TBR pile. I don’t expect anyone to go out and buy 1 let alone 30 new categories to complete this challenge. You can if you want, but that’s not the point for this challenge. Your library, ebay, and amazon are equally good sources for free to low price categories if you want to join the merriment.

6th Edition of Love of Movies Carnival

moviesWelcome to the final edition of love of movies. I've decided to cancel this particular carnival because very few people are respecting the rules of submission and are submitting low quality articles. I apologize for those that were enjoying this carnival and for those submitters who followed the rules, but it's very time consuming to go through the amount of submissions I was getting, check them out, and categorize them accordingly. From now on there will only be author love and romancing the novel.

Thank you for these six fab editions!

Book Intros

Book Reviews

  • Jim Murdoch presents Personal Velocity posted at The Truth About Lies, saying, "This is a review of both the book and the film 'Personal Velocity' by Rebecca Miller (author of 'The Private Lives of Pippa Lee'). The book deals with seven women all at critical junctures in their lives; the film only has only time for three. How do we choose? Why do we choose? How much is choice really our choice and how much is it being affected by our parents, our personal histories or even history on a larger scale? An excellent read and the most faithful of film adaptations."
  • Surbhi Bhatia presents The Notebook posted at The Viewspaper » The Viewspaper.
  • Jim Murdoch presents Time Out of Joint posted at The Truth About Lies, saying, "Everyone knows 'The Matrix' and 'The Truman Show' but would we have had either without Philip K Dick's early novel 'Time Out of Joint'? Set in an unnamed American city in 1959 it tells the story of Ragle Gumm whose world starts to dissolve before his very eyes both metaphorically and literally. Is he crazy? Yes. And the fate of mankind rests on him staying so. If you only know 'Blade Runner' and 'Total Recall' this is one to check out."
  • The Smarter Wallet presents Women and Money By Suze Orman, A Book Review posted at The Smarter Wallet, saying, "Thanks!"
  • Silicon Valley Blogger presents Have No Estate Plan? Try This Guide to Wills and Trusts posted at The Digerati Life, saying, "this is a book review of the book "A Parent's Guide To Wills & Trusts"."

Love of Movies: Edition #4

Welcome to the fourth edition of love of movies carnival. How many of you saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince this last week? What did you think? I was surprised I didn't get a ton of movie reviews for it. I wrote mine at 3AM when I got out of the midnight premiere on Wednesday. I was very careful to leave spoilers out for those who hadn't read the book yet. I saw it again yesterday with my family and the majority agreed with my assessment of the movie. The one who didn't prefers more Voldemort and just more going on. The New Moon trailer (sequel of Twilight) at both show times was welcomed in screams by everyone in the audience. November will prove to be exciting too.
