What You Need to Know: Boys Over Flowers is a Korean TV romantic drama. It runs for two seasons with a total of 25 episodes. The series is based on a Manga series of the same title which I have not read. There’s been other adaptations of the Manga besides this one with differences.

Recommended: If you like/love/drool over Twilight; if you adore foreign films, especially Asian ones, and can read with ease lots of subtitles or know Korean; if you’re a girl lol---:D; if you like love triangles or if you like YA romances… any one of these and you should see this show; more than 3 of these and you’d be a fool not to see it!

Plot: The story takes place at an elite boarding school where only the top 1% of Korea’s wealthy children attend (and even then some of them can’t get into the school.) Geum JanDi saves a bullied male student from committing suicide while running clothes from her father’s dry cleaning business to the school. Journalists and the public voice are having a field day with it until the school’s president decides to offer a scholarship spot to the girl. From there JanDi runs into the F4, a group of popular boys that run the school, and immediately gets on Goo JoonPyo’s bad side. What follows is a wonderfully complex soap opera full of awesome.

The Love Triangle: (Lots of Twilight references ahead…just because it’s a common base for most to jump from…) It’s so hard to choose because they’re both like Edward Cullen more than Jacob Black.

One of the guys – Goo JoonPyo even has his own crazy hot wild hairdo. It’s curly! It’s adorable. I love it. He’s the possessive one and is basically all of Edward Cullen’s darker qualities, but with a tender streak too. Min-ho Lee who plays Goo JoonPyo has a very expressive face and a really hot body. Yum!

The other guy – Yoon JiHoo is all of Edward’s sensitive artistic aspects combined with his aloofness. Hyun-joong Kim who plays JiHoo is also very hot. I want to go to Korea and date these two boys (seriously! Wow!) JiHoo dislikes all the stupid drama at his school and often rushes to Geum JanDi’s rescue.

The girl – Geum JanDi is a very warm character. She likes to eat, stand up to bullies, and like Bella Swan prefers to stand on her own two feet and not accept monetary bribes or help from the guys. JanDi is played by Hye-sun Koo and the girl is adorable with big eyes. I love how she walks a bike back and forth when she’s not pedaling it – cute!

Final Thoughts: This show has it all – boarding school, school wide bullying/hazing, love triangle, side romances, drowning 3 times? 4 times? something like that, 2 physical disabling incidents, amnesia, lots of fainting and passing out immediately into dead sleeps, faked accidents, fake hospital stays, vacations, backstabbing, revenge, kidnapping, innocents getting setup, getting caught in a blizzard, three proposals, an arranged/forced marriage, estranged family getting reunited, and the kitchen sink in there somewhere too!

Rating: ★★★★★ – Don’t walk, run! Get a copy!

This story by Kleypas is an exciting adventure from start to finish. It all starts with a manhunt… or should I say a woman-hunt? Nick Gentry is looking for the wily Charlotte Howard. He has a small portrait of her in his pocket and his brother-in-law’s backing to get him into the Earl of Westcliff’s home where he’s tracked Charlotte. The Earl notices something fishy about the Viscount John Sydney and sets about unveiling the man’s secrets.

Meanwhile, John Sydney aka Nick Gentry, is prowling the premises for Charlotte and comes upon a young lady on top of a stone wall starring out across the grounds. Her foot is caught in her dress and Nick springs into action to save her… only to find the appealing woman in his arms is the very woman he’s been paid to track down.

Against all better judgment, Nick decides he can afford to stay and watch the lovely and lively Lottie. He comes to the startling conclusion that he wants her for himself and Lord Radnor can go hang before he’d ever bring to the obsessed creep a treasure such as her. Just as passion is sparking between Nick and Lottie, Westcliff pounces with the truth of Nick’s identity.

Frightened but determined, Lottie vows she will never go back to Lord Radnor. Westcliff offers to marry her to keep her away from Nick and provide protection, but Lottie turns him down. Instead she offers herself up to be Nick’s mistress which he refuses because he’d also rather have her as his wife…

I’m classifying this novel under virgin hero, not because Nick was a virgin in his relations to Lottie but because we see him lose his virginity to the Prostitute Gemma, well I suppose she was the Madam of the brothel.

This book would be rated higher, but I was a little disturbed by Radnor’s obsession with trying to break Charlotte as if she were a horse. I also didn’t like learning that her parents were okay with her being locked in a room alone with Radnor while he forced her to sit on his lap and answer to him while he touched her inappropriately… and while there was no full blown rape in the story, this qualifies to me as rape and is marked as such.

Luckily for readers Nick is a dominating force and dispels upsetting Radnor’s presence pretty easily. Oh and this is the first time I’ve seen a shower scene in a historical but Kleypas explains in her author notes why she included it based on her research. It’s solid so don’t let the idea of inaccuracy turn you away from reading this book.

Interesting term found within the prologue: buttock-and-file whore which is an old term for a street prostitute who was in connection with a pickpocket or also pickpocketed her customers. So you would pay, pay again involuntary, and perhaps gain a new venereal disease. Cool.

Summary: Sheikh Ashmit bin Sultan al Nashan is sent by his father the King to rescue an English schoolteacher, Russ Edwards, who is being held in the desert by terrorists. When Ashmit finds the chained Englishman in the terrorist camp, he is overcome with lust. This is unacceptable! He is stunned and appalled that he is attracted to a man. His duty has always been to marry the beautiful Ashwarya and have an heir for the throne. Until then, his father has said that he must remain a virgin. Purity “in mind and body is essential to maintain the authenticity of our bloodline.”

Russ cannot believe how beautiful his rescuer is, and he doesn’t understand why he is so cold one moment and definitely not cold at all in the next.

Review: It was fun reading a gay version of the typical Sheikh romance novel. Like those it has the intelligent, handsome, and sometimes arrogant leader/prince of a mythical non-Muslim country falling in love with a foreign commoner. At first I had trouble dealing with the idea that a King would send his heir to the throne out alone to save a foreigner from terrorists, but it fits into this type of story. (Later is it is revealed that the King had a very good reason for wanting his son to do this.)

Ashmit definitely has issues, but it is understandable considering how he was raised to believe in his duty to his father and country. I liked how his plan for dealing with his pending marriage allowed him to fulfill that duty.

Hot scene: There’s a temple in the desert that has some interesting carvings and an alter.

Overall: A quick fun read suited to those who like Sheikh and/or LGBT stories.

Genre: YA Romance

Summary: Lily Sanderson is a mermaid living on land and attending Seaview High School. Oh and did I mention she’s also a princess? Her father wants her to spend time with her human aunt (her mother was human too) and find a mermate before her birthday. If she doesn’t she’ll lose her claim on the crown as his successor.

The bond? She’s got it covered… well… sort of… The boy she’s crushing on doesn’t notice her in that way and most days she can’t blame him, her hair on land is a shipwreck. But she has a plan to get Brody Bennett to notice her. Now that he’s single and broken up with his girlfriend, she’s going to pluck up the courage to ask him out to the school dance. They’ll kiss, bond, and live underwater for the rest of their lives in perfect bliss.

Unfortunately for her, bad boy and annoying neighbor Quince Fletcher gets in the way. Every time she gets an opening, he’s there pestering her. Why does he hate her so? Lily wishes he’d leave her alone, but when he promises to help her catch Brody she accepts… but then he goes and ruins everything by stealing her kiss creating an accidental bond. Now they’re mated and only daddy can undo it… but he doesn’t seem inclined to help fix this colossal mistake.

Review: This is a fun accidental reverse Little Mermaid Syndrome. Quince has no idea that kissing Lily, incidentally her full name is Waterlily, will change him forever. Literally! Her kiss starts the mermate bond and turns him into a merman. But uh, he doesn’t know how to swim! The book is super cute. I loved the fishy curse terminology – son of a swordfish, blowfish, frogging, etc. The book is the first in a series and I can’t wait to read the up and coming books.

Favorite Scenes: Quince holding Lily in his lap in the bathroom. Silly, hot, and sweet. I also loved their time together on the mini island as part of the break-up/therapy challenges to get permission to reverse the bond. Quince begging her to keep the bond between them in her dad’s office under the sea and lots of other little moments too.

Their love was hopeless and yet they couldn’t help but hope no matter how bleak and forbidden it was.

Grace has been searching for love for six years since her attack by wolves. Her heart leaps every time she sees the gray wolf with yellow eyes that saved her from the vicious pack. He only comes in winter and that is why she loves the austere season so much, because she can watch him. She tries to lure him closer with food and quiet patience until one day he does cross the line of the woods and let’s her run her hands through his ruff.

Sam has a secret. He’s been in love with Grace for six years and he’s the wolf outside her home in the winter clinging to the memory of her scent. He’s a werewolf and his time is running out. The cold makes them change, shed their human skin, until one day the heat of the sun can no longer turn them back. When he’s shot in the woods by hunters and reverts to his human form, Sam struggles to keep it because he knows deep down inside that this is his last chance of being human. The wild is calling him and Grace is his last chance to escape the desolate future that awaits him. Grace is his sun.

The story had a surprising amount of parallels to Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, but I suppose to make a story like this work there must be some similarities. Here are the ones that I remember off the top of my head:

  • Ignorant parental units. Grace’s parents, like Bella Swan’s, are incapable of really being there for her which forces Grace to be extremely independent. She even cooks for them.
  • Self-inflicted isolated heroines. Grace chooses books over human contact like Bella does, but Grace has real friends even if they aren’t as close as they once were. I’m surprised they let her get away with dropping off the face of the planet once Sam shows up in her life. (Yes, I know they keep asking her where she’s been and to call but they never force the issue.)
  • Heroes raised in supernatural families. Sam was raised by a pack of wolves.  He was home-schooled by them, taught to defend himself and survive by them, and loved them like a family. Edward can hardly remember his human life and lives with six other vampires and they are like his parents and siblings.
  • Eyes. Sam’s buttery yellow eyes and Edward Cullen’s topaz eyes, though Sam’s was born with his and gets to keep them in human and wolf form. Additionally, they never turn black with hunger.
  • Musically inclined heroes. Sam writes lyrics in his head all the time when he has words (wolves have images) and plays the guitar. He writes a love song for Grace.
  • Bedroom window stalking. Sam and Edward both watch their loves windows, though Sam never dares to enter until he’s invited.

I had a hard time with the poetry and lyrics throughout the story. They worked and they didn’t at the same time. Sometimes the narrative broke down into them as events took place. There were the occasional weird turns of phrases that made me pause and have to go back and reread to see if it was a grammatical error or done on purpose. Overall, it was a great book. I loved Sam. He was the perfect werewolf gentleman and has restored my faith in the supernatural species. If you’re more inclined to love vampires and need a great book to introduce you to werewolves this book is for you.

Andrew Wyndham gets the offer of a lifetime to tutor an unruly child at a huge mansion where its master, Duncan Stewart starts out as an imposing and brooding man of means who shows Andrew what life at Seacliff is like.

Duncan slowly warms to Andrew, his new tutor who just happens to be a virgin, and gay, tries to hide his sexual leanings from the others even though he gets plenty of attention from Duncan, Leo and other men he meets both in and out of the mansion. Duncan is extremely possessive of his new employee, and becomes jealous of the attention Leo gives to Andrew but Andrew is resisting this thinking he might be the murderer of his father, Gordon as all the clues he finds in the house seem to lead to him.

Andrew does not want his thoughts of him being the killer to be true as he has formed a bond with Duncan even the likes of the amorous Leo can't break.

For the most part sex scenes do not feature in this novel; love-making is left for the end, is touching and guaranteed to leave the reader with a warm fuzzy feeling. There is plenty of seductive dialogue, clues as to the real murderer, and comic moment’s readers will enjoy.

The novel's author manages to capture the atmosphere of a turn of the century Gothic romance novel with its depths, its dark remote setting, and the brooding character of Duncan and the lovable Andrew.

Keira: Who is the most persistent husband hunter in FBI agent Jon Blackhawk’s life?

Diana Palmer: That would be Joceline Perry, who has appeared in many other books, lol. I fell in love with her when she refused to do menial chores at work and she became my heroine.

Keira: What makes single mother, Joceline Perry, stand by Jon when he’s threatened by a revenge seeking criminal, especially because it might put her son at risk?

Diana: Because she loves him – she can’t stand by and let him get killed. She has a secret that he doesn’t know yet.

Keira: The mystery behind Kilraven’s first wife and child double murder from Dangerous is solved in Merciless. Are there any hints you’re willing to divulge here? Or perhaps a red herring?

Diana: There is another link to this chain. I was very surprised to discover that the murderer wasn’t exactly fingered in Dangerous. It’s amazing how characters take on life and become people inside the pages of a book. Often they come up with situations and conclusions that I never really thought about. (Don’t get nets and come after me, other writers will tell you the same thing).

Keira: Tell us about Jon – is he a virgin? Why are virgin heroes sexy?

Diana: In this convoluted world where sex has become a party favor rather than a solemn, beautiful part of love between two people, I think virginity is sexy. I don’t like promiscuity. Oddly, at the turn of the 20th century, even men were expected to wait until marriage to indulge. I think that’s sexy, too. Okay, I ‘m a dinosaur, I admit it. I don’t belong in the modern world.

Keira: Tell us about Joceline – will she ever reveal who the father of her son truly is?

Diana: Oh, yes, she will, and people will be surprised.

Keira: Why does Cammie, Jon’s mother, dislike Joceline so much?

Diana: She doesn’t think anybody is good enough for her son. But Cammy also has very old-fashioned attitudes which sometimes lead her to erroneous conclusions. She will get a real shock about Joceline, and have to face her own prejudices head-on.

Keira: Merciless is the newest book in the Long, Tall Texans for readers who haven’t read other books in the series, what does each LTT book have?

Diana: They all take place, more or less, in a small town called Jacobsville, Texas(and its neighbor, Comanche Wells, Texas). These are small, fictitious towns set in stasis, where everybody knows everybody and it’s like living in a large, very diverse family. In fact, I live in one of these myself. I think small towns are the closest to heaven you can get on earth. I’m glad that some other people, my wonderful readers especially, feel the same way I do.

Keira: What’s coming up in the LTT series? Whose story will we get to read next?

Diana: It was going to be Rourke, the one-eyed South African merc with the very wild sense of humor. But my readers spammed me for Grange, so it looks like the ex-Army Major is next up for hardcover treatment. But in December 2011 True Blue comes out – it’s the story of San Antonio detective Rick Marquez, well known for his single status and very sexy look. He winds up in the middle of a South American revolution which will involve Grange and General Emilio Machado, who appeared in my last hardcover, Heartless. Going to be an interesting year. Oh, I love my job!!!

This is a “dark” erotic m/m tale. There’s nothing gentle about this pack. Completely lost to the moon’s seductive pull, these werewolves are callous creatures with no guilt, no self-control, and no humanity. They want, they take, they’ll get…end of story!

Pack of Lies is told by two of the main characters; the two heroes. It’s written in first person POV narrative giving us the pack leader’s perspective, Marcus, as well as Jack’s viewpoint.

Warning: For adult readers. Scenes contain graphic violence, as well as m/f and m/m sexual encounters.

Marcus knows he’s behind the eight ball. Despite being the alpha, his hold over the pack is precarious at best. The others are beginning to retract their loyalty in order to follow another werewolf named Julian. This alpha yearns for something he can’t have. A forbidden desire to be with another male. If his lustful thoughts were given free rein, his pack would strip him of his leadership; giving Julian the upper hand once and for all. It’s critical Marcus hide his longings under permanent lock and key.

While on the hunt one night the fever causes Marcus to attack a human. The violence he was prepared for, that’s just par for the course. What this alpha wasn’t expecting was to share a psychic connection with a handsome architect.

Will their psychic imprint cause Marcus’ downfall? Or will a newly turned half-breed named Jack Devereaux be the salvation he’d been hoping for?

My thoughts: The entire novel has an air of despondency about it. I love dark reads, but would’ve liked to come up for a few gulps of happiness. Even dark reads which line my shelves have either a few comedic moments, or at least a few pleasant scenes to smile over.

Favorite scene: When Jack’s getting in touch with his manhood in the office bathroom.

Recommendations: Stand in front of A/C vent when reading.

The author’s strength lies in her expert descriptions of the moon’s complete control over the werewolves.

“Huzzah” for this Kensington Zebra debut author! Erica Ridley’s Too Wicked To Kiss is a titillating whodunit set in a London castle. There’s unlit corridors, secret passageways, stolen kisses, and a hero in cravats and breeches, “Oh my!” I may not wield powers of clairvoyance like (Evangeline) Ridley’s heroine, but I’m predicting this author will receive many calling cards from readers.

Are you going to like this historical romance? Ooo…yeah! I received the eARC for review and pre-ordered the paperback from B&N. I simply must procure the paperback for my bookshelf! Just picture me for a second, walking on hot coals repeating, “Hot, hot, hot, hot!”

Evangeline Pemberton is no stranger to heartache. Her mother has recently passed, and she’s just ran-away from her physically abusive stepfather (Neal) who aside from hitting her also entertains lascivious thoughts regarding his stepdaughter. Evangeline’s clairvoyant gift has caused her to shun both friends and the touch of others. Any touch brings about visions either past or yet-to-be along with one hellacious headache. Alone and out of options, she turns to Lady Stanton and her daughter Miss Susan Stanton. They offer to take her to Blackberry Manor in London with “one” simple stipulation; entrap Gavin Lioncroft (hero) into a betrothal contract with Susan. Evangeline’s not sure which of these three options terrifies her more: (1) deceiving an innocent bachelor into marriage with a total stranger (2) the fact that Gavin is a presumed murderer and they’re to stay in his manor for two weeks or (3) that Neal will find her.

When a murder is committed in Blackberry Manor everyone’s suspect, with at least 15 suspects and three with a motive to kill, this whodunit will leave you second-guessing the guilty party until the very end.

Evangeline finds her upcoming deception harder and harder to accomplish. Gavin is stirring passions within her both new and wonderful. Will she entrap Gavin for Susan? Or will Evangeline keep this “sinfully handsome” man for herself?

My favorite character was the hero, Gavin. What’s not to love? He’s a wickedly handsome tease. He protects those he loves; he’s passionate and goes after what he wants. Not to mention, here’s a man who knows how to apologize.

My favorite scene: In the dining room Gavin’s gaze slides down Evangeline’s body and retraces the path back up. He stares boldly and lifts an eyebrow to let her know, he likes what he sees. When she does the same to him and looks up at his face, he winks.

Too Wicked To Kiss is funny, sensual, entertaining and has a happily-ever-after. A must read!

Recommendations: If you like romances, this novel is a must read. I’m also recommending it to readers who like Sherlock Holmes, whodunits, Nancy Drew, mystery, romantic suspense, hot reads, Regency, historical and happily ever afters.

The sequel to Too Wicked To Kiss is set to release in the spring of 2011. Too Sinful To Deny is the story of a gossip-hungry heroine Miss Susan Stanton. Susan is Evangeline’s friend in book one. Something tells me there are lots of changes to come for Miss Stanton and some of which include…pirates!

If you’ve heard of the Cat Star Chronicles before then you know that Zetithians, a feline big cat like alien species, are known for their males’ remarkable sexual prowess. We’ve even gone over some the *ahem* anatomy of these hunky men in The Sexual Prowess of Alien Romance Heroes. Seriously, you should check that out… hot. :D

So what happens when a male of the species is a virgin? He has no experience with the sexual prowess of the other males. How he was allowed to remain a virgin is a mystery! Dax talks about turning down some persistent women with a certain underhanded trick (that eventually lands him in some hot water with a couple of whores…), but I can’t really see him escaping the demand on him by others in his species to procreate.

The Zetithians were wiped out because of their sexual skill you see, and only now that they’ve found the man responsible and got justice are they able to rebuild in relative peace.

Ava is a half-breed. She’s part fish (Aquerei) and part human. She’s had two boyfriends and her current one, Lars, she wants to ditch something fierce, so she can return to her old boyfriend. A problem for Dax because Ava is the first woman he’s been attracted to and stirred by her scent, but he agrees to take her to where the old boyfriend is and does it scandalously cheap. (He charges everyone by what they can afford, not by how much they have on hand… very noble.)

Meanwhile there’s a subplot where a bunch of Aquerei are looking for Ava, not that she’s aware, in order to prevent a reordering of the Aquerei’s home world, which Ava is a key player (again something unknown to her.) I wonder how that works out?

I love Dax’s fumbling ineptitude in pursuing Ava. If you like virgin heroes, you will too!
