This is book 2 of the “Jane Austen/Mr. Darcy” series.

Kay Ashton is helping to take care of a very sick woman. They also have something in common – they have a love of Jane Austen. We see that her favorite romantic hero is Mr. Wentworth or to be more specific the actor Oli Wade Owen. If you had one romantic hero you could dream about, who would it be? We also see that Kay is a book illustrator. She quits her job to follow her dream.

Adam Craig is a screenwriter and film producer who lives near Lyme Regis. Kay doesn’t know it yet but they have a connection. But Victoria surprises us by making him painfully shy. Will he get over his shyness to let Kay know how he feels?

Kay has opened a Bed & Breakfast and her first guests are a group of actors doing a film based on one of Jane Austen’s works. We see that Kay has a very easy going personality which works well for her new line of work. She appears to be one of those people who likes everyone. And with a house full of celebrities she’s just a little awe struck.

One of Victoria’s characters sticks out. Her name is Gemma. She’s one of the actresses staying at Kay’s B & B. She’s quiet, a daughter of an actress, and one who hopes she won’t turn out be just like her mother. She doesn’t appear to be your typical ingénue.

For those readers of romance that don’t know much about Jane Austen, Victoria sneaks in little bits and pieces about her into the story – a miniature history lesson if you will. She may make you a fan before the book is finished.

In Kay’s interactions with the film group, she makes certain observations. Be we have to question how on point her observations are. Kay has a crush on the “pretty boy” actor Oli Wade Owen. Is she just star struck because of all his attention? Is she misinterpreting that attention? Will she miss her true soul mate because of her walking around with her head in the clouds?

Victoria helps to fuel the romance bug. You’ll become a fan of hers and she may change your mind about going back and reading some of Jane Austen’s work. She will also get you hooked on the surroundings – she’s our travel guide as she takes us through the English countryside.

This story is definitely like a film. Victoria puts in so many twists and turns you have to keep reading to see who ends up with whom. But if you expect to read sex in this story, you will be disappointed. If you expect a cut and dry romance between main characters, you will also be disappointed. If you love a romance that takes its time and comes out to be a surprise, this book will be for you. You may also want to go back and read the first book and then wait for the Spring when her third book comes out.

What You Need to Know: Boys Over Flowers is a Korean TV romantic drama. It runs for two seasons with a total of 25 episodes. The series is based on a Manga series of the same title which I have not read. There’s been other adaptations of the Manga besides this one with differences.

Recommended: If you like/love/drool over Twilight; if you adore foreign films, especially Asian ones, and can read with ease lots of subtitles or know Korean; if you’re a girl lol---:D; if you like love triangles or if you like YA romances… any one of these and you should see this show; more than 3 of these and you’d be a fool not to see it!

Plot: The story takes place at an elite boarding school where only the top 1% of Korea’s wealthy children attend (and even then some of them can’t get into the school.) Geum JanDi saves a bullied male student from committing suicide while running clothes from her father’s dry cleaning business to the school. Journalists and the public voice are having a field day with it until the school’s president decides to offer a scholarship spot to the girl. From there JanDi runs into the F4, a group of popular boys that run the school, and immediately gets on Goo JoonPyo’s bad side. What follows is a wonderfully complex soap opera full of awesome.

The Love Triangle: (Lots of Twilight references ahead…just because it’s a common base for most to jump from…) It’s so hard to choose because they’re both like Edward Cullen more than Jacob Black.

One of the guys – Goo JoonPyo even has his own crazy hot wild hairdo. It’s curly! It’s adorable. I love it. He’s the possessive one and is basically all of Edward Cullen’s darker qualities, but with a tender streak too. Min-ho Lee who plays Goo JoonPyo has a very expressive face and a really hot body. Yum!

The other guy – Yoon JiHoo is all of Edward’s sensitive artistic aspects combined with his aloofness. Hyun-joong Kim who plays JiHoo is also very hot. I want to go to Korea and date these two boys (seriously! Wow!) JiHoo dislikes all the stupid drama at his school and often rushes to Geum JanDi’s rescue.

The girl – Geum JanDi is a very warm character. She likes to eat, stand up to bullies, and like Bella Swan prefers to stand on her own two feet and not accept monetary bribes or help from the guys. JanDi is played by Hye-sun Koo and the girl is adorable with big eyes. I love how she walks a bike back and forth when she’s not pedaling it – cute!

Final Thoughts: This show has it all – boarding school, school wide bullying/hazing, love triangle, side romances, drowning 3 times? 4 times? something like that, 2 physical disabling incidents, amnesia, lots of fainting and passing out immediately into dead sleeps, faked accidents, fake hospital stays, vacations, backstabbing, revenge, kidnapping, innocents getting setup, getting caught in a blizzard, three proposals, an arranged/forced marriage, estranged family getting reunited, and the kitchen sink in there somewhere too!

Rating: ★★★★★ – Don’t walk, run! Get a copy!

Our main characters are Layna Killian Hertz, a photographer for an advertising firm and her college sweetheart Brendon Fordon, a famous artist.

We first see Layna after she has a vision, or nightmare, about her ex-boyfriend Brendon. She can’t decide what to do so she calls her friend Winifred for advice. As part of her job, she needs to travel to New Orleans (and it just so happens that’s where Brendon lives). Wini’s solution is to read her tarot cards. You’ll have to read the story to find out what they told her.

Our first impressions of Brendon are that he loves women, loves partying, and of course painting. But does all this really make him happy? He admits to us that he uses women. Is this the man that Layna loved?

Brendon is also a man that loves to inflict pain onto his submissive partners. As you read this story, you will have to question if Brendon made a deal with the devil for the price of being famous. You also see that he is such a jerk – Layna is better off without him. What did she ever see in him?

Layna and Wini go to New Orleans where Layna meets up with Brendon and to do her job. Wini is there to be her support system. We also learn that Layna and Wini used to be a couple (which we don’t see prior to this). Layna and Brendon end up going back to his place. There is a feeling of darkness about it – especially in the bedroom. Layna doesn’t realize that evil is Brendon’s roommate.

Everything about Brendon is dark especially what he likes sexually. But don’t give up on him yet. Maybe when Kimberly was writing this story, the man isn’t supposed to save the day. Maybe she’s put in a twist – it’s the woman that steps into that role.

There’s just something about New Orleans that makes the perfect setting for this type of story. The town is just the right backdrop and the ambiance comes through. I couldn’t picture a better setting.

As I continue to read the story, I have to wonder about the title. The title is Painted Love but the first four letters are P-A-I-N. I found that very interesting and wondered if that was Kimberly’s intention.

The scenes are very physical and not everyone is a fan of this much graphic BDSM. It will be up to you to decide if this book is for you. There are all kinds of erotic novels and some are more graphic than others. Do you find this acceptable in your love stories? Maybe this is a case of where evil wins the day. But you will have to read the book to find that out.

Kimberly does take the BDSM much farther than I have ever read in a book before but for this type of dark paranormal it works. You tend to forget that Brendon is possessed by something evil. You wonder how far he will go to inflict that much pain on someone he loves.

The darkest part of the book comes toward the end and it’s a complete surprise – not quite what you may be expecting. I felt that things ended fairly quickly after that. Would I read the story again? Probably around Halloween.

Main Characters:  Fiona Carlisle, jilted by her fiancé for her sister.  Michael Houston, playboy photographer and Fiona’s rebound fling.

This is a book that is written in the first person.  The reader can get a sense of what it’s like to be in Fiona’s shoes.  Fiona begins her story by thinking about her sister’s engagement party.  In order for her to make it through the party, where her ex-fiancé (of course) will also be attending, she has decided to ask Michael to go with her.

Michael is definitely the ultimate bad boy.  Michael has been very persistent about sleeping with Fiona after that brief fling.  Just like all good romance novels, the female character doesn’t want a repeat because she is afraid how it will affect her.

You have to love the descriptions that Calista uses.  The reader can just imagine how vindictive Fiona’s little sister is.  You also have to sympathize with Fiona.  No one deserves to be treated the way she was.  But Calista also makes Fiona a strong independent woman.

When Fiona goes to see Michael to ask him a favor, you can just about see the electricity that is created between the two of them.  If I was reading a paperback, instead of an e-reader, I’d have to use the fire extinguisher to put the flames out.  Calista creates some really “hot” scenes.

Like every good erotic romance, you go over to ask a guy a favor and instead things get out of control and you have some very heavy petting.  But the girl comes to her senses at the last-minute and puts a stop to it.  No one wants to get burned twice.  Then the reader finds out how the book got its title.

One thing I like about Michael is he never quits when he wants something.  And what he wants is Fiona.  With Calista’s way with words, the reader can tell how much Michael cherishes Fiona.  This is the type of erotic romance that I love to read – so hot you can’t put it down.  The sex scenes are pure steam and no place is off-limits when making love.  Calista makes her sex scenes a natural progression of their love for each other.

Michael is Fiona’s strongest supporter.  Fiona fights their connection but I don’t think she realizes what a strong couple they really are.  Michael certainly knows how to take care of a woman.

Calista also does a great job with Fiona.  When it comes time for the engagement party, the reader has to cheer Fiona on.  We see how both vulnerable and strong she is.  Calista writes the type of book that you want to read again and again.

One thing I loved about this book is that there aren’t a lot of pages.  This forces the author to keep the scenes short and to the point.  We don’t feel that the scenes drag on forever before getting to the point.  If that did happen, the book wouldn’t flow as well as it did.  Plus, I don’t know that I would have liked it as well.

“Huzzah” for this Kensington Zebra debut author! Erica Ridley’s Too Wicked To Kiss is a titillating whodunit set in a London castle. There’s unlit corridors, secret passageways, stolen kisses, and a hero in cravats and breeches, “Oh my!” I may not wield powers of clairvoyance like (Evangeline) Ridley’s heroine, but I’m predicting this author will receive many calling cards from readers.

Are you going to like this historical romance? Ooo…yeah! I received the eARC for review and pre-ordered the paperback from B&N. I simply must procure the paperback for my bookshelf! Just picture me for a second, walking on hot coals repeating, “Hot, hot, hot, hot!”

Evangeline Pemberton is no stranger to heartache. Her mother has recently passed, and she’s just ran-away from her physically abusive stepfather (Neal) who aside from hitting her also entertains lascivious thoughts regarding his stepdaughter. Evangeline’s clairvoyant gift has caused her to shun both friends and the touch of others. Any touch brings about visions either past or yet-to-be along with one hellacious headache. Alone and out of options, she turns to Lady Stanton and her daughter Miss Susan Stanton. They offer to take her to Blackberry Manor in London with “one” simple stipulation; entrap Gavin Lioncroft (hero) into a betrothal contract with Susan. Evangeline’s not sure which of these three options terrifies her more: (1) deceiving an innocent bachelor into marriage with a total stranger (2) the fact that Gavin is a presumed murderer and they’re to stay in his manor for two weeks or (3) that Neal will find her.

When a murder is committed in Blackberry Manor everyone’s suspect, with at least 15 suspects and three with a motive to kill, this whodunit will leave you second-guessing the guilty party until the very end.

Evangeline finds her upcoming deception harder and harder to accomplish. Gavin is stirring passions within her both new and wonderful. Will she entrap Gavin for Susan? Or will Evangeline keep this “sinfully handsome” man for herself?

My favorite character was the hero, Gavin. What’s not to love? He’s a wickedly handsome tease. He protects those he loves; he’s passionate and goes after what he wants. Not to mention, here’s a man who knows how to apologize.

My favorite scene: In the dining room Gavin’s gaze slides down Evangeline’s body and retraces the path back up. He stares boldly and lifts an eyebrow to let her know, he likes what he sees. When she does the same to him and looks up at his face, he winks.

Too Wicked To Kiss is funny, sensual, entertaining and has a happily-ever-after. A must read!

Recommendations: If you like romances, this novel is a must read. I’m also recommending it to readers who like Sherlock Holmes, whodunits, Nancy Drew, mystery, romantic suspense, hot reads, Regency, historical and happily ever afters.

The sequel to Too Wicked To Kiss is set to release in the spring of 2011. Too Sinful To Deny is the story of a gossip-hungry heroine Miss Susan Stanton. Susan is Evangeline’s friend in book one. Something tells me there are lots of changes to come for Miss Stanton and some of which include…pirates!

Never Too Hot is part of Bella Andre’s Hot Shots: Men of Fire series.

Connor MacKenzie is my ideal hero. He’s a hunky firefighter still struggling with the trauma inflicted by the Desolation wildfire two years ago that left him with serious burns on his arms and hands. As someone who defined himself by his job, Connor can’t handle losing his position as a Hot Shot Tahoe firefighter forever, but as he’s on his last appeal with the Forest Service he might just have to.

In an effort to get his mind off the immediate future, Connor decides to return to his summer childhood vacation retreat in order to fix it up for his brother’s upcoming nuptials. He’s expecting peace, familiarity, and time to work out the remaining aches and pains of his hands. Instead he finds Ginger Sinclair.

Ginger is a newly divorced woman who has come to Poplar Cove to revel in her new freedom. She’ll wear what she wants, talk how she wants, eat what she wants, do what she wants, and live how she wants. None of her wants include a man like Connor MacKenzie who appears at first so much like her sleazy husband. If only he would disappear and her life could go back to what it was before his unexpected arrival.

I really liked Ginger’s and Connor’s love story, and the author’s use of setting to force them together repeatedly. Plus Connor is way yummy. However, their story kept getting hijacked to deal with the reunion of Andrew (Connor’s father) and Isabel (Ginger’s friend), something I wasn’t interested in reading in the least. At least, not as part of this book, maybe if it had been its own stand alone instead of a little side romance I would have felt differently. But, if you’re looking for a little more mature romance in your romances then you will want to read about Andrew and Isabel as well as Connor and Ginger.

The Courtesan is the second novel about the Cheney Sisters, wise women from the Faire Isle. It takes place against the backdrop of sixteenth century France with Catherine de Medici and Henry Valois playing significant roles as antagonists. Primarily it is the story of the second Cheney sister, Gabrielle, but is also a continuation of the first novel, The Dark Queen.

Gabrielle Cheney was, in her younger years, a talented painter and sculptor, but has lost her art as a result of being raped by a man she thought was a gentleman and suitor. She has since decided that the only way to protect herself and her sisters is to gain influence and power. She knows that men find her desirable and she leaves Faire Isle and makes her home in Paris becoming the consort of wealthy, influential men. Gabrielle feels responsible for the death of Nicolas Remy and is haunted by his memory. She has befriended a fellow wise woman, Cassandra Lascelles, who is a necromancer. Gabrielle approaches Cass and asks that Cass conjure Nicolas from the dead so that Gabrielle can ask his forgiveness. Cass is unable to contact Nicolas but does make contact with Nostradamus, who predicts that Gabrielle will become consort to Henry of Navarre and rule France at his side.

Captain Nicolas Remy is known as ‘the Scourge' by the Catholic citizens of France and is loyal to the Huguenot, Henry of Navarre. In the end of the first book, The Dark Queen, he is dying in an alley on St Bartholomew's Eve while someone is stealing his boots. He had been fighting to save Henry of Navarre and his comrades in arms when they were attacked by Catherine de Medici's troops. Now Catherine de Medici is keeping Henry prisoner and Nicolas is determined to free him and return to Navarre. He has returned quietly to Paris with only one man by his side. Ironically, it is the man who was tried to steal his boots. He desperately needs Gabrielle's help. Gabrielle believes Henry of Navarre needs to remain in Paris.

There are many things standing in the way of love for Nicolas and Gabrielle besides the obvious conflict of interest. The court of Catherine de Medici is a dangerous place of political intrigue, dark magic and witch hunters and there is trouble at every turn. This is a wonderfully written book that combines history, paranormal fiction and romance into a delightful story with authentic and interesting characters while still remaining to be lighthearted and fun to read.

Robin Kaye’s second book, Too Hot to Handle is witty and enchanting. Too Hot to Handle is the sequel to Romeo, Romeo. It follows Rosalie Ronaldi’s sister, Annabelle, on her tumultuous journey into love. Luckily for her, she has a sturdy cast of lively friends and a dog there to help her figure it all out. Her journey starts with this humorous first line: Ghosts don’t have sex, do they?

Of course the answer is no, but the distressingly dashing Doctor Mike Flynn looks almost exactly like her late boyfriend Chip Larsen. They could have been twins. Sure, his mouth is a little different, his nose broken and healed could have once been Chip’s nose, his eyes the same shape if different colors and his package is certainly better equipped… but other than that the similarities are shocking.

Annabelle’s past with Chip was rocky at best. Chip was not a very good boyfriend, even his sister thought so, but Annabelle never got the chance to really figure that out on her own. When the cancer came back, Chip refused to go through chemo again despite Annabelle’s and his family’s begging. Despite the heaviness of the emotional issues, this is still a romantic comedy.

Mike Flynn is working at a dead-end practice. His research though thorough wasn’t enough to prepare him for the realities. He’s going to be blackballed for bringing notice to a sloppy ill-informed partner. His only shot is to get out before it becomes common knowledge about his disagreements. Meanwhile his love life is pitiful, he’s tired of seeing the girls that Nick has let go, he wants a girl of his own and believes he struck gold with Annabelle who he met at her sister’s/his best friend’s wedding.

Mike’s background and Annabelle’s history will do their best to keep them apart. Life is messy, but with the help of a domestic god and busybody friends, family, and neighbors can it be cleaned up?

Anne’s found another job three thousand miles away from her current one and she couldn’t be happier. Life for her has stalled, and she’s eager for it to start again. On the day she goes into work to tell Mitch that she resigns, no quits, that he plans to fire one of his communications team members. Mitch decides to make a game of the experience and won’t tell them who he’s going to fire, instead he’ll make them work to keep their jobs. The loser voted off the island as it were could easily turn out to be the winner in this farce, because the loser will be sent home with six weeks of severance pay for every year worked. For Anne that’s two years worth of salary. Immediately her plans change, she won’t tell Mitch she’s quitting, she’ll get him to fire her!

Fire Me is the direct opposite of The Devil Wears Prada. Instead of vying for approval from the boss that can’t be pleased, our heroine is trying to attract his attention and disapproval. The book takes place in a single day and I devoured it in the same time frame. For hijinxs and crazy shenanigans that’ll leave you chuckling to the bewilderment of those around you, I highly suggest this book.

Along her trip to the land of pink slips, Anne finally notices Ken. She struggles to keep her secret and gets both irritated at sweet Ken’s helpfulness to sooth over all her over the top schemes and falling just a little bit in love with the white knight routine. Ken is the new graphic design manager for the communications team. He’s only been working for six months and finds Mitch to be a charlatan and takes great pleasure in mentally dissecting the man. He also has a thing for Anne, whose face he’s been trying to capture in the moment right before her smile takes off and lights her up.

It’s hard to work romance into a single day but Libby manages to do it. There are stolen kisses in the elevator, a lunch date, and some lovely emotional concern for the other by both parties. Ken thinks Anne is taking the news and pressure badly, not realizing what she’s up too and Anne works to keep Ken’s name away from Mitch’s axe. While the heroine and hero are not officially together at the end of this story the possibility is there. They meet up the next morning after the ridiculous day before and the promise is wonderfully uplifting.

Rich Ronaldi got dumped! It’s not the getting dumped that bothers Rich, what bother Rich is the fact his boss and friend, Craig Stewart, wants to meet his “steady stable girlfriend” at a benefit coming up. Not sure which man asked this, Rich goes by the assumption that it is his boss and not his friend. The only way to get Gina (Rosalie’s best friend) back in time is to prove he is willing to change and become a relationship guy… aka a Domestic god!

Recipe for Changing a Selfish Slob Boyfriend into a Domestic God:

  1. Dump boyfriend and tell him his cooking and cleaning ability will be the basis of any future relationship.
  2. Add one girl who’s willing to teach him domestic skills live with him.
  3. Stay clear while he burns food, explodes the dishwasher, and catches laundry on fire.
  4. Let him simmer for a while and when he finds cleaning cathartic take him off the burner and get ready to enjoy the change.

**Word of caution, watch out for the girl who’s teaching him how to cook and clean! She may just like what she uncovers under the surface.**

Becca Larsen is Annabelle’s best friend and Mike’s half sister from the last domestic god novel, Too Hot to Handle. She’s an artist who works in clay and oils. It is her unfortunate luck that Annabelle rented out the Park Slope apartment to her and her sister Rosalie rented it to their brother Rich. The man is a hopeless slob and very annoying!

As a reader I found Becca annoying. How’s that for irony. There were plenty of moments where she wasn't but in my opinion, Rich carries the novel. He does it so well and he’s just so cute about everything you can’t help but sigh a little over him.
