If she does, she loses her own. But she still has time before the Earl of Newbury asks, perhaps there is another way?

Hero: Sebastian Grey firsts hears of Annabel as a woman ‘…so fertile that birds sing when she draws near.’ He knows his uncle, the Earl of Newbury, wants an heir so that he does not inherit the estate. His uncle hates him and the feeling is mutual. He does not care if he inherits or not, he just wished he knew one way or the other.

Meet Cute: A chance meeting outside in the moors at an annual house party when Annabel literally trips over Sebastian. He was just waiting for his female partner to slip back into the house party before he went in again. She was escaping his cruel, odious, groping uncle. (That lecher!  Shudder.) They flirt and then kiss. (Seb and Annabel.) Hawt.

Review: Rosalyn Landor is a wonderful narrator. She brought the characters fully to life and if you combine her talent with the author’s you have an amazing story. I loved it. Capitalize that—I LOVED IT! I was utterly charmed, just like Sebastian was with Annabel. The story is sweet, the sexual tension sizzling, the romance was just perfect. Sebastian is making it to my favorite hero list (which shouldn't surprise him, he loves lists... and so does the heroine). (Now I have more than one Seb to love, bwuahahaha!)

Summary: Vivienne has been having a difficult time since finding her boyfriend in bed with another woman. It particularly didn’t help when he told her that she drove him to it since she was boring in bed. Now she feels sad, boring and unsexy. In an effort to cheer her up, a friend sends her a link to an adult literature site. Viv enjoys reading the stories and decides to submit an erotic story that she had written years ago. She is surprised to receive many positive comments on her piece. One comment from a reader signed “S” grabs her attention, and they begin an exchange of erotic email.

Review: Wow. This story shows clearly the power of words, and proves once again that the most important sexual organ is the brain. From the vivid sexual descriptions that Viv shares with S, she regains her feelings of sexiness and leaves behind those that made her think that she is boring.

“Yes, I did look this way, this was me. I wasn’t a black and white and gray being after all. These simple words I found to describe myself implied I was filled with color.”

As Viv and S’s exchanges become more detailed, you can see how words can make connections and changes lives. Viv looks eagerly for S’s emails, and she finds herself doing things that she has never done before.

The only thing I didn’t like about the story was that I felt that the email exchanges went on a bit long. I wanted them to meet already!

Overall: A hot story of a woman finding herself and love again.

This is book 2 of the “Jane Austen/Mr. Darcy” series.

Kay Ashton is helping to take care of a very sick woman. They also have something in common – they have a love of Jane Austen. We see that her favorite romantic hero is Mr. Wentworth or to be more specific the actor Oli Wade Owen. If you had one romantic hero you could dream about, who would it be? We also see that Kay is a book illustrator. She quits her job to follow her dream.

Adam Craig is a screenwriter and film producer who lives near Lyme Regis. Kay doesn’t know it yet but they have a connection. But Victoria surprises us by making him painfully shy. Will he get over his shyness to let Kay know how he feels?

Kay has opened a Bed & Breakfast and her first guests are a group of actors doing a film based on one of Jane Austen’s works. We see that Kay has a very easy going personality which works well for her new line of work. She appears to be one of those people who likes everyone. And with a house full of celebrities she’s just a little awe struck.

One of Victoria’s characters sticks out. Her name is Gemma. She’s one of the actresses staying at Kay’s B & B. She’s quiet, a daughter of an actress, and one who hopes she won’t turn out be just like her mother. She doesn’t appear to be your typical ingénue.

For those readers of romance that don’t know much about Jane Austen, Victoria sneaks in little bits and pieces about her into the story – a miniature history lesson if you will. She may make you a fan before the book is finished.

In Kay’s interactions with the film group, she makes certain observations. Be we have to question how on point her observations are. Kay has a crush on the “pretty boy” actor Oli Wade Owen. Is she just star struck because of all his attention? Is she misinterpreting that attention? Will she miss her true soul mate because of her walking around with her head in the clouds?

Victoria helps to fuel the romance bug. You’ll become a fan of hers and she may change your mind about going back and reading some of Jane Austen’s work. She will also get you hooked on the surroundings – she’s our travel guide as she takes us through the English countryside.

This story is definitely like a film. Victoria puts in so many twists and turns you have to keep reading to see who ends up with whom. But if you expect to read sex in this story, you will be disappointed. If you expect a cut and dry romance between main characters, you will also be disappointed. If you love a romance that takes its time and comes out to be a surprise, this book will be for you. You may also want to go back and read the first book and then wait for the Spring when her third book comes out.

Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen novel and so I grabbed this one as soon as I saw it. The appeal of the story for me is the thought that no matter how much time has passed nor how large the mistake, it can be fixed.

Summary: In this adaptation Rick Wentworth lives in Australia and is a famous marine biologist who has spent his career studying sea dragons. He is now headed back to England to promote his book which his publishers have fortunately for him decided to name Sex in the Sea. Ever since Anna Elliot refused to marry him and broke his heart, Rick has lived by the motto, “Never forgive, never forgot”. But after ten years, Rick is thinking that once he returns from his book tour, that he needs to finally forget Anna, perhaps marry his supermodel girlfriend and get on with his life.

Anna’s life has been busy with her work as a professor of Russian Literature. She regrets that she let her mother’s friend Lady Russell (or Minty as she is known to her friends) talk her in to rejecting Rick’s proposal. She has kept up with Rick’s career, and she even has a ticket to his Bath book signing, but she doesn’t know if she will have the guts to approach him.

Review: Archer captures perfectly the style and tone of the origin. You see and feel the melancholy. (The advantage this one has over the original is that you get to see it both in Anna and Rick.) There is also the sly humor. (The total cluelessness and self-absorption of Anna’s father Walter Elliot and her sister Lisa is a frequent target.)

I liked how that even though this Rick and Anna had a more intimate relationship than their Austen counterparts, the sexual detail is somewhat vague and left for the most part at the bedroom door. It feels the way that Austen might have written it if she were to do so today.

The fun for me with any adaptation of Austen’s is the way the author fits in all the important plot points and characters. For example, the “Letter” scene is a convincing variation. However, one problem that I had with the overall story is that the keeping Rick and Anna apart felt a little forced. Societal rules in Austen’s time meant that there was a more “natural” barrier in the fact that a woman had to wait for the man to approach her.

Things that made me chuckle: The Forward in the book by Will Darcy who met Rick when he and his sister Georgie were on holiday in Australia.

Any mention of name Dottie Dalrymple.

The thing that creeped me out: William, who is Walter Elliot’s heir, bears enough of a physical resemblance to Walter to make Anna uncomfortable. Her sister Lisa doesn’t even seem to see this and is eager to marry him.

Overall: An excellent version of Persuasion. The author captures perfectly the mood and humor of the original while telling a modern story.

Before you start: Have you read Jane Eyre? Did you like it? Well The Forbidden Wife followed Jane Eyre to a Tee, which is great if you love Jane Eyre (which I do) but awful if you’re looking for new surprises (I was and there wasn’t any).

Heroine: 18 year old Ashley Jones is an orphan who grew up in the foster care system. She’s got lots of debt and so desires jobs that include room and board. She’s pretty perceptive and has a lot of insights on people’s behavior because of her upbringing. Working as Jack’s live-in assistant at Blackwood Manor is her ticket for something better, even if it’s located out in the middle of nowhere on the moors.

Hero: 30 something Jack Marchant is working on a novel about his experiences in the military where something bad happened (but is never explained). He suffers a lot from bad dreams which might be indicative of PTSD (but again never specifically stated). He wants Ashley, his little oddball, something fierce, but the trick is making her realize she wants him and can have him.

Wife in the Attic: Or in this case the cruel wife in a coma. She tricked Jack into marriage with a fake pregnancy, which he honored even after finding out because he didn’t want her to swindle him out of money for a marriage that was only 3 months old and also because his pride demanded he make it work anyway.

Review: I wanted Forbidden Wife to do more. If it explored more emotional depth out of Ashley and Jack it could have been a solid update on Jane Eyre. I found this review of the story hilarious because it really tells it like it is.

For all those girls who love bad boys, this is the book for you. A cavalier thief (aka "highwayman") not only works to steal your heart, but also your baubles and pocketbook.

Hero: Rand is tall, dark and handsome. And if that already isn't enough, he's got the Robin Hood persona down pat. His cool, reserved demeanor can be trying for the reader to get into, but if aloft is hot for you- then this is the romance hero for you.

Heroine: Elizabeth is a curvy girl who's far before her time. She's feminine and independent (petticoats with career goals and aspirations)... it makes me happy. Elizabeth, a top selling romance novel writer in the Regency era, finds herself falling in love with the protagonist from her own work. At first glance, she knew she wanted to meet him.

She approaches him from all the way across the dance floor, and introduces herself – completely shocking herself with her brashness. It was very fun to see the heroine put herself out there time and time again. Her infatuation grows with him, as his surface-deep indifference increases (which seems a bit backwards to me, but makes for some interesting situations.)

Dislikes: Right from the first sexual encounter between Elizabeth and Rand... which was hot and feverish, Rand disappears. He might as well have been the invisible man, how fast he fled the scene. Seriously, then he goes on to tell her she should be with an alternative suitor (who also happens to be the "Right Arm of the Law" type guy and a beta male).

If that hadn't been horrifying enough to read, Elizabeth happily accepts his fleeing without complaint. Yeah... that is unacceptable in my book. You don't say "I love you" and run. Talk about mixed signals.

Likes: I loved the sex scenes, so hot. Rand plays a very controlled counterpart in those scenes. I had to wipe the sweat off my face, I got so hot.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the main character's ardor, she was very capable of handling any all situations that arose, especially in reference to the sticky situations featured around the criminal acts of her bad boy.

Lady of Seduction is book three of the “Daughters of Erin” series.

The action begins right at the start of the book. Caroline Blacknall is on a ship during a very bad storm. She meets up with Grant Dunmore whom she hasn’t seen in quite a while. There seems to be an instant connection between the two. You think that Grant is a former lover but Laurel puts a twist in the story, he’s not. The way Laurel describes Grant, we don’t think of him as handsome. But not all our romance heroes can be gorgeous. Plus they say, “love is blind”.

It seems that Laurel has made Caroline a writer of sorts and Grant has something she wants. But Grant is a man of many secrets and Caroline, being a typical woman, wants to know what those secrets are. They also seem to have one adventure after another. Our couple seems destined to be together no matter what Grant wants.

Within the first quarter of the book, our author gives the couple their first intimate moment. It happens so naturally – very sensual and fits into the scene perfectly. There is also a scene where they take a walk together. Laurel does such a great job of describing the scenery that you can almost believe that you are right there with them.

One good thing about historical romances is that the author gives their readers a history lesson of sorts. We get to learn a little bit about the country we are “visiting”. The history plays an important part in this historical romance.

Laurel also adds in some suspense into her story. The reader has to ask themselves, “Whose side is Grant on?” He has some people come to visit. “What are his visitors up to?” She also gives us some mystery. With adding the suspense and mystery into her story she keeps her readers enthralled. This also is what makes the story a page-turner. This story builds on the suspense right up until the end.

Besides being a writer, Caroline is a woman who has spirit and is also very curious. She will go to any lengths to protect the people that she loves. We also get to see Caroline as a storyteller.

Grant gives us the impression that he wants to be left alone. But Laurel has also made him a man that has a sensitive side – especially where Caroline is concerned. He is also an honorable, yet stubborn, man. He doesn’t feel that he is worthy of Caroline’s love.

If you love historical romances you will want to add this to your must read list. This is definitely a story that can be read on its own even though it’s part of a series. But if you loved this book as much as I did, you will want to go back and read the other two books in the series.

Review: Amelia Grey’s novels are what romance dreams are made of. Simply charming! I’m thrilled this novel was reissued; allowing me the chance to discover its beauty. I’ll admit I’m partial to novels featuring reformed rakes. Knowing the heroine succeeded where hordes of women failed. Yet regardless of your favorite tropes, I believe all romance readers will enjoy A Dash of Scandal.

I’d also like to mention that some authors reveal clues pointing to the mysterious antagonist. Not so with Grey. I never realized who the Mad Ton Thief was until it was revealed at novel’s end. I believed it to be someone else entirely. Apparently, I’m not the sleuth I once was. Romance, mystery, and scandal, intermingle in what’s sure to be…your newest favorite read.

Favorite scenes:

Number 1: Millicent is writing gossip notes on her dance card when a shadow falls over her card. Guess what the shadow is? Not a what. A who! Lord Dunraven. Ha-ha.

Number 2: Every…time, he blows her a kiss. Yowzah! I know you can’t hear me because I’m wearing my gloves, but I’m clapping wildly.

In the third installment of the Casa Dracula series, Milagro finds out that marrying into a vampire family isn’t nearly as glamorous or easy as one might think. The Council has a bunch of hoops she has to jump through and the more she learns about them the less appealing it becomes and the more estranged she and Oswald are.

It should have been as easy as signing some papers and all the extra security Oswald wanted her to have would have been bestowed. Instead they want her to renounce her American citizenship for Vampiric citizenship and abstain from sex with her fiancé until after the wedding. What business is it of theirs anyhow? If that wasn’t enough they stick her with a vampire wedding coordinator for the family side of the ceremonies! Can you guess who they got? Cornelia, Corny, Ducharme.

Corny claims to be on Milagro’s side but she’s sticking Millie with all sorts of unpleasant tasks – creating a vampire fruitcake and sewing wedding clothes for herself and Oswald. Then while borrowing Cornelia’s car to run wedding errands the car quits and Millie nearly dies. Police get involved and Oswald doesn’t believe her when she says she’s not acting paranoid… but it’s not paranoia if everyone seems to be out to get you.

One of the things Millie is most concerned about is the bloodletting that Oswald seems to expect once they get married. She hasn’t been able to stand getting cut up and licked since Ian saved her with is blood. She’s also not interested in cutting Oswald and half the time she doesn’t realize her own strength and hurts him. When she runs into Ian she tries to deal with her issues and get him out of her system at the same time – it leads to an unexpected revelation – that Ian has a heart and Milagro can indeed break it.

Outside of wedding plans, Millie is ghostwriting for Don Pedro. While the job is about her writing his memoir, she’s fabricating everything. Joseph Alfred Joseph, someone she met while setting up the deal with Pedro, comes to visit and gets involved with Corny. Oswald wants to hire a new partner and expand his business, something that really bothers Milagro and the two fight over it among other things.

At every turn, instead of bringing them together, the wedding seems to be breaking them up and worse Millie’s confused about her feelings for Ian and Oswald’s parents dislike her with a burning passion. What’s a girl to do?

In the final installment of the Casa Dracula series, Milagro must make the toughest choice of all and that’s following her heart. She’s with Ian currently, but every time she thinks of Oswald, her heart aches. The idea of leaving Ian though causing just as much heartache which confuses her because she swears her hormones hijack her brain whenever he’s around.

When Ian hires thralls, Milagro is severely tested, but Ian confronts her about the issue. Then she sees him snacking on their next door neighbor, Christine (Cricket) Poindexter, and while the woman seems to be enjoying it a little too much, it’s the last straw for Millie. Of course with Ian, Milagro is always looking to find fault so she can run from him. He poses too much of a threat to her heart compared to the safe and fascinating Oswald.

A torrid fling in England and finalizing a second contract with Don Pedro is just the thing she needs to distance herself from all she’s feeling. Ian is none too pleased and they have another confrontation. When Wilcox Spiggot comes to America to continue the affair, he’s killed and left to decompose on Milagro’s bed in her loft.

She assumes it was Ian but his thralls say he wasn’t in the country. Leaving, she stumbles across a scene at the neighbors. Cricket in an attempt to win Ian has been draining her blood in doses and saving it for him, this time she accidentally cut an artery and bled to death. Her husband freaks out, slips on the blood and goes down hard on the floor cracking his head.

Cue a super secret special force team that hauls Milagro away. This is where the opening prologue and the story realign. Book four of Casa Dracula is noticeably darker in theme than the previous while still keeping the ongoing humor element. The one thing I will tell you about the dark portion is that it’s not very long and there’s no rape. Milagro uses her wits and escapes going to Mercedes and then onto the ranch looking for help.

Oswald is not happy and a series of events occurs that results in Milagro having amnesia. At first nobody believes her but it soon becomes apparent Millie is indeed suffering some trauma. The Grant family calls in a shrink who comes to the ranch to help her out while they petition for recovery time from the Council who wants to investigate and interrogate Milagro.

Is this the second chance Milagro needs to turn things around with Oswald or will she realize her heart belongs to Lord Ian?

When she asks for the reasons both men claim to love her is very eye opening set of moments for her and some of my favorite moments in the series.

If you haven’t yet tried the Casa Dracula series, and you love vampires or comedy romances, you need to snatch up these novels immediately!
