Summary: Book Three in That Old Black Magic Series

Maxwell Truitt (hero) is a shark-shifting sheriff. And for reasons unbeknownst to me, I want to sing that to the tune of Bob Marley’s song, I Shot the Sheriff.

All right, let’s move on. Max is patrolling the Atlantic one night when he rescues a woman from the clutches of a leviathan. And now Sheriff Truitt wants answers! Why was the leviathan so far from its territory? Why was Willa Jameson (heroine) parked near the ocean…at night? Max may want answers, but he’s not going to get them. For starters, Willa’s unconscious. When she does come to-she doesn’t remember what happened. And when she does remember, her memories can’t be trusted. Someone’s tampered with them.

The sheriff and his seal-shifting friend (Boone) will give Jameson medical assistance and nurse her back to health. But their involvement with the witch is about to plunge them into a deep-dark oceanic secret. A secret that may herald a horrific Armageddon. It’s a race against time to find Poseidon’s trident! Can a shark-shifter, one seal, and a witch save mankind from annihilation? May…be. After all, Willa’s not exactly-human.

Review: Ms. Redford is exceptionally proficient in escapism. In this third novel in That Old Black Magic series she introduces us to a plethora of new characters (all shifters): sharks, seals, dolphins, eels, walruses, and soul collecting leviathans. Just to name a few. Those readers who enjoy fantastical worlds will enjoy the portal journey from a land based Georgia into a watery Atlantis.

I felt that Maximum Witch was funnier than the earlier installments, and thoroughly enjoyed Willa’s inner slut as well as her naked cowgirl. It was also nice reading the contrasts between what the characters’ were thinking vs. what they actually say. It’s those contrasts that shed light onto the characters themselves, and also make for some comedic moments for the reader.

Because books one and two explored the witch-familiar link, I kept expecting Maximum Witch to do the same. Which sadly, it didn’t. On the plus side, the author gives us an eerie insight into the leviathans’ powers. How the soul collecting ones track a soul and how they’re able to transform their physical appearance, etc. This is one of those I can’t-get-enough-of series! And I’m eagerly awaiting Getting Familiar with Your Demon. It’s about a virgin witch and a demon soul collector named Samael Gorasola.

Recommendations: Recommended for sea loving paranormal erotic romance readers, erotic readers, adults who enjoy the fantasy genre, and those who like stories about Atlantis. Note: This novel contains certain paraphilic scenes such as steamy voyeurism and exhibitionism. It also has M/F and M/F/M sexual encounters.

What I Enjoyed:

Favorite Character: I thought the antagonist rocked! Reva’s a homicidal siren. If her ear-splitting wail can crack a driveway, imagine what it could do to your eardrums. Reviewer shudders violently.

Scene: There’s a scene where Max and Willa are having sexual intercourse in a Jacuzzi and Boone’s watching them. `Course it isn’t long before he goes from watching to participating. Reviewer grins wickedly. Then rereads the scene for the umpteenth time.

What You Need to Know: Boys Over Flowers is a Korean TV romantic drama. It runs for two seasons with a total of 25 episodes. The series is based on a Manga series of the same title which I have not read. There’s been other adaptations of the Manga besides this one with differences.

Recommended: If you like/love/drool over Twilight; if you adore foreign films, especially Asian ones, and can read with ease lots of subtitles or know Korean; if you’re a girl lol---:D; if you like love triangles or if you like YA romances… any one of these and you should see this show; more than 3 of these and you’d be a fool not to see it!

Plot: The story takes place at an elite boarding school where only the top 1% of Korea’s wealthy children attend (and even then some of them can’t get into the school.) Geum JanDi saves a bullied male student from committing suicide while running clothes from her father’s dry cleaning business to the school. Journalists and the public voice are having a field day with it until the school’s president decides to offer a scholarship spot to the girl. From there JanDi runs into the F4, a group of popular boys that run the school, and immediately gets on Goo JoonPyo’s bad side. What follows is a wonderfully complex soap opera full of awesome.

The Love Triangle: (Lots of Twilight references ahead…just because it’s a common base for most to jump from…) It’s so hard to choose because they’re both like Edward Cullen more than Jacob Black.

One of the guys – Goo JoonPyo even has his own crazy hot wild hairdo. It’s curly! It’s adorable. I love it. He’s the possessive one and is basically all of Edward Cullen’s darker qualities, but with a tender streak too. Min-ho Lee who plays Goo JoonPyo has a very expressive face and a really hot body. Yum!

The other guy – Yoon JiHoo is all of Edward’s sensitive artistic aspects combined with his aloofness. Hyun-joong Kim who plays JiHoo is also very hot. I want to go to Korea and date these two boys (seriously! Wow!) JiHoo dislikes all the stupid drama at his school and often rushes to Geum JanDi’s rescue.

The girl – Geum JanDi is a very warm character. She likes to eat, stand up to bullies, and like Bella Swan prefers to stand on her own two feet and not accept monetary bribes or help from the guys. JanDi is played by Hye-sun Koo and the girl is adorable with big eyes. I love how she walks a bike back and forth when she’s not pedaling it – cute!

Final Thoughts: This show has it all – boarding school, school wide bullying/hazing, love triangle, side romances, drowning 3 times? 4 times? something like that, 2 physical disabling incidents, amnesia, lots of fainting and passing out immediately into dead sleeps, faked accidents, fake hospital stays, vacations, backstabbing, revenge, kidnapping, innocents getting setup, getting caught in a blizzard, three proposals, an arranged/forced marriage, estranged family getting reunited, and the kitchen sink in there somewhere too!

Rating: ★★★★★ – Don’t walk, run! Get a copy!

Heroine: Kidnapped, Celia Seaton is no passive miss. At the first opportunity she gets out of the attic of a two story cottage wearing only her under clothes. Stumbling upon her worst enemy (who doesn’t even know he’s her enemy because she doesn’t register on his radar) conked out across the threshold of the house, Celia hesitates on what to do. When he wakes and doesn’t know who he is a brilliant idea takes shape.

Hero: Tarquin Compton is a rich fashionable dandy (but not gentry) who collects erotic books and books on poetry. When he gets lost in the moors he stops at a cottage for directions and gets knocked out by Celia’s kidnapper. When he wakes he suffers from amnesia and buys Celia’s story that he’s her fiance. Well he buys some of it anyway, there’s no way his name is Terence Fish, which makes him wonder if he tricked Celia about who he was in order to seduce her.

Favorite Moments: When she gives him her web of lies about who he is and what he means to her, the cauliflower incident, and when she gives herself to him.

Missed Opportunity: Tarquin immediately confronts Celia about her ill use of him after the return of his memories, instead of actively trying to be the man she created for him. I thought he was really falling for her at the time and would rather go undercover to discover if she really loved him or was just using him before his confrontation. But apparently he needed to get his head on straight before he could regret his harsh actions/words.

And heroine should have said once when he was still suffering from amnesia that she loved him... all of him even the parts he couldn't remember, because she was darn near thinking it and that would have been sweet. It would also force Tarquin to come to terms with his idiocy sooner. Luckily she rejects his reluctant and insulting proposal to patch up her now ruined reputation.

Mystery: Why is an ex-fiance/governess who has been tossed aside/dismissed for moral turpitude kidnapped? Terence Fish wants to know and so should you!

Review: A fun romp with witty banter, a plucky heroine, an amnesiac hero, and cauliflower! You won’t regret running out to get this book for your collection.

Gena Showalter brings her readers a book that starts a new series titled “Royal House of Shadows”.  Hers is the first book of this series.

Our heroine’s name is Jane Parker.  The story starts with Jane receiving a mysterious package.  We see that she is unemployed, has no family, and has been injured.  She has also been having some very strange dreams.  She dreams of a vampire – Nicolai.  We find out that the mysterious package has a book in it and that the story matches her dreams.

As Gena tells you the story, the reader can feel the sensuality weave itself around Jane and Nicolai.  The story weaves itself so well you just have to find out what happens next.  It’s a story you don’t want to put down.

Jane’s life changes when she goes to sleep in one world and wakes up in another.  As Jane tries to figure out why she is where she is, she finds out that Nicolai is there too.

When we first meet Nicolai he seems to have amnesia.  The only thing he is sure of is that he’s a vampire.  When the two finally meet, Nicolai wants Jane very badly.  As you read on in the story you can feel the connection between the two characters.  We see how stubborn Jane can be and how this frustrates Nicolai.  Jane also tends to think too much.

Gena makes Jane a character that is both strong and intelligent – a woman who can take care of herself.  It’s great to see a woman character that can stand up to the “big guys” and almost hold her own.  You can also tell that this surprises Nicolai.  Nicolai acts just like a knight in shining armor – someone who will protect his lady-love at all costs.

One of the evil characters in the book is named Princess Laila and she is Jane’s sister.  The other evil character is Jane’s mother the Queen of Hearts.  We have to keep reading to see if good (Jane and Nicolai) can overcome evil (Laila and the Queen of Hearts).

As you continue reading this story you can feel the connection between Jane and Nicolai grow.  Gena creates great chemistry between the two.  It got so “hot” that I had to turn my fan on.  This story sizzles!

Every time you think that Jane and Nicolai are going to romantically connect, Laila and her mother seem to interrupt.  You would think this would slow the story down but it doesn’t.  It actually turns up the heat more.  I was drinking my ice tea at the time I was reading this story and was I glad.  This book turns the temperature up a notch!

In all good romances, our lovers are torn apart and then have to find their way back to each other.  Gena doesn’t disappoint her readers in developing this story.  She also knows how to make her evil characters really “bad”.  You really have to hate that they keep coming between Jane and Nicolai.

Gena also does a great job of putting a plot twist in.  You would think that it would ruin the story because it comes so close to the end of the story but Gena works it to perfection.  It keeps the reader’s attention because you want to know how it all ends.

This is the type of paranormal romance that I love to read.  It reels you in with the promise of something but that something just stays out of reach.  This forces the reader to turn the page.  You have to continue the story to see what happens.  Gena keeps the readers involved throughout the whole story by allowing them to use their imagination.

With this great book to start the “Royal House of Shadows” series, I can’t wait to see what the other authors do with their books.

In the final installment of the Casa Dracula series, Milagro must make the toughest choice of all and that’s following her heart. She’s with Ian currently, but every time she thinks of Oswald, her heart aches. The idea of leaving Ian though causing just as much heartache which confuses her because she swears her hormones hijack her brain whenever he’s around.

When Ian hires thralls, Milagro is severely tested, but Ian confronts her about the issue. Then she sees him snacking on their next door neighbor, Christine (Cricket) Poindexter, and while the woman seems to be enjoying it a little too much, it’s the last straw for Millie. Of course with Ian, Milagro is always looking to find fault so she can run from him. He poses too much of a threat to her heart compared to the safe and fascinating Oswald.

A torrid fling in England and finalizing a second contract with Don Pedro is just the thing she needs to distance herself from all she’s feeling. Ian is none too pleased and they have another confrontation. When Wilcox Spiggot comes to America to continue the affair, he’s killed and left to decompose on Milagro’s bed in her loft.

She assumes it was Ian but his thralls say he wasn’t in the country. Leaving, she stumbles across a scene at the neighbors. Cricket in an attempt to win Ian has been draining her blood in doses and saving it for him, this time she accidentally cut an artery and bled to death. Her husband freaks out, slips on the blood and goes down hard on the floor cracking his head.

Cue a super secret special force team that hauls Milagro away. This is where the opening prologue and the story realign. Book four of Casa Dracula is noticeably darker in theme than the previous while still keeping the ongoing humor element. The one thing I will tell you about the dark portion is that it’s not very long and there’s no rape. Milagro uses her wits and escapes going to Mercedes and then onto the ranch looking for help.

Oswald is not happy and a series of events occurs that results in Milagro having amnesia. At first nobody believes her but it soon becomes apparent Millie is indeed suffering some trauma. The Grant family calls in a shrink who comes to the ranch to help her out while they petition for recovery time from the Council who wants to investigate and interrogate Milagro.

Is this the second chance Milagro needs to turn things around with Oswald or will she realize her heart belongs to Lord Ian?

When she asks for the reasons both men claim to love her is very eye opening set of moments for her and some of my favorite moments in the series.

If you haven’t yet tried the Casa Dracula series, and you love vampires or comedy romances, you need to snatch up these novels immediately!

I'll be the first to tell you I'm not a fan of the love triangle for many reasons. The first and foremost reason is because I feel it's just a ploy by an author to fuel the angst and drama of a mediocre story. Haymore proves me wrong. She does not do this. The love triangle is a valid part of the plot and wholly integral with the storyline. She approaches the love triangle in a very unique manner. I don't want to spoil anyone, because it's so different than anything I've encountered before in my readings.

Another reason I have trouble with the love triangle situation is the waffling. I simply don't get it. I'm told this is because I haven't been in one and until I have triangles are hard to appreciate or sympathize with. If you're like me you probably think it's very black and white and very little gray. In my head, I know it's gray. I know that it is possible to love two people at once, but the Grinch side of me feels that if you can't make a choice between them then you don't love either one enough and should let both go. Haymore made me feel the conflict that Sophie, who is in the middle, goes through. I appreciate her position and I sympathize with her, something that is way out of the norm with me.

I have a feeling that a second read through will make it a better read, because I know where it's going. I was looking at all the wrong things in the book the first time and therefore was anxious and worried about how the plot was developing, certain that Haymore was going to bungle it. I just couldn't see how it was going to work out.

Haymore surprised me, the ending surprised me, and that says something. It made me reevaluate the whole book and all my complaints and worries held no weight.

A fan of the love triangle will be placing this novel on their favorite shelf. Someone who like me, needs a little persuasion about the loving the love triangle can read this and appreciate it. Who knows, it may hook you so completely you can't wait to grab a hold of another love triangle!

A brief summary:
Sophie loved Garrett since she was 16 years old and was devastated when he didn't return home from Water-Loo. Tristan is her best friend and together over many years they healed from their mutual loss. One night after their marriage Garrett returns. Everything as they knew it is changed from property to titles, from money to marriages--Haymore explores Regency law and Regency hearts.

This spicy historical will steal your breath and capture your heart.

This novel includes: breathtaking settings, a sword-wielding, sexy Scottish highlander, a great plot, and as an added bonus, a happily-ever-after. Sound interesting? You bet! Terry Spear employs her happily-ever-after motto in this new historical novel, once again leaving her readers smiling.

Lady Eilis, heroine, is up against the wall. Her cruel and dominating uncle is forcing her to marry through deceit. (All she needs to do is pretend to be her late cousin, and marry an older man she doesn’t love.) This may or may not stop fighting along the clan borders, but one thing’s guaranteed, life for Eilis only holds misery and duplicity if she stays in Ireland and plays the hand she’s been dealt.

James MacNeill, laird of Craigly Castle, is in a pickle himself. He’ll need to find a wife soon or relinquish the clan to his brother, Malcolm. (All he needs to do is fight the hateful, good for nothing Dunbarton clan, and find a suitable wife; with haste.)

James has a plan, Eilis had a plan or did she? She really can’t remember much after she hit her head on that boulder. Now she’s a lone survivor of a shipwreck, in Scotland, with no memory of who she is.

Clans will fight, prisoners will be captured, and Eilis will run again, but she’ll soon realize, you can’t run from your heart.

A beautiful tale of trust, loyalty and love!

Things I enjoyed: How the heroine “continuously” manages to stumble into the hero’s bedchamber while he’s in various states of undress. (Lucky lass!) Which leads me to the second thing I enjoyed, every time James calls Eilis, lass.

My favorite character: Lady Eilis. Regardless of her inner turmoil, she follows her heart and does what she feels she must do.

I don't normally go for cheesy fantasy romance, but even the name tells the reader a little something about the character. Stormy Knight is a young woman who is on the run and being chased by people she does not know. She has no idea who she is, or where she came from, her mind is a blur and a mix of events that don't seem to make sense. At first it didn't seem to make sense to me either, yet this novel is neither cheesy nor wholly fantasy as Stormy appears as real to me as she will to anyone else reading this piece.

It isn't too long before the reader finds out that Stormy is having nightmares about a man who comes to her, and makes love to her sleeping body, but he isn't at all what he really appears either. She wakes up covered in blood, and with skin under her fingernails, is it her own, or someone else’s? She catches glimpses of the man in her bed, but even he is nightmarish with dark fur over his back, blood red eyes and snarling sharp teeth. Everything is vague, but there is a reason for that and it becomes clearer the further on the reader gets into the novel. What she has no idea of is she is being targeted by a werewolf who wants to make her his own, and will stop at nothing to make her see reason. She, on the other hand wants to know who she really is, and suffers torment night after night as a result.

Denise, author of such works as Masquerade, Whispers In The Dark, and Samson and Delilah has done a great job of using dream imagery to good effect with the poor woman, Stormy, who is tormented, and hurt once she wakes up from her nightmares. Demitri is the head of a fire fighting team who risk life and limb every time they go out on a call - but even Stormy can't see what is going on around her until it is too late.

I liked the moments of comedy in the story, how she interacts with the other guys who work at the station, and how she copes with her night life. One moment in particular made me laugh and will remind readers what I originally said about her name:

"What kind of name is Stormy Knight?" One man asked.

"Not sure. Family, maybe," Her voice was low, almost a whisper.

"Naw, sounds like a name f --ed up parents would give a f --ed up kid if you ask me. Even better, probably what the weather was doing when they made her."

However, when Stormy questions why the station can't get hold of real silverware, and the reply is that most of who work at the station are allergic to silver - it is too obvious for comfort even in a world where werewolves are still seen as impossible. As the name states, Stormy is in fact none other than sleeping beauty who is desired by one man she has only seen in dreams. She is the sort who most men crave for, but there is something strangely tragic about her until she knows who she truly is.

Denise is really good at showing sensuality, and gives it a real depth even in the first chapter where she is recalling her nightmare, and the effect it provoked in her. Readers should get an idea of what to expect once they start reading, and if they like to get straight to the eroticism they won't be disappointed with Sleeping Beauty.

One man finds what he doesn't expect in a bar while he's playing pool, a woman and not just any woman - she's one of those men don't normally find on a standard everyday night, and certainly not when he looks like he does, scarred from a car accident that could have claimed his life he leads his life as any man would considering his dire circumstances, and certainly doesn't think he looks that good enough to attract any kind of female attention. He had an idea his life might never be the same again after what happened, and seeing her was one of the most unexpected things that could occur.

The woman, Alyssa doesn't want to let him go, but has to - yet she thinks she knows who he might be as she has been searching the same places her missing man, Chris, would have visited as her man was in an accident too, and she hasn't seen him since - not even after having put so much money into finding him. She is at a loss as to what to do, but has the strength and determination to try and seek him out, as for her, failure is not an option when faced with a life she can only spend with useless men who aren't a patch on her former lover.

Alyssa is persistent to the point of annoyance with Thomas, but there is something else annoying her, her current man is unresponsive to her needs for finding her missing former love - he thinks she should let the past lie, and go on with her life with him, but nothing is as simple as that for her - she wants her former man back and will do anything in her power to make it possible.

She thinks the man she met that night in the bar could have the answers she needs, but she has to find him again, and as her friend reminds her, if he is Chris, he might not want to continue where they left off.

It is a deep story, comical in places with some endearing touches to it that the reader will like if they are into contemporary romance with a twist as this appears to be. Alyssa is a very strong woman who knows how to be pleased in bed, so it is little wonder that she will only respond to the one she really loves most, her Chris.

The entire story involves the two of them, Thomas and her insulting each other, and trading jibes that only he would know the meaning of, but the real question is, is he her true love and has just changed his name, or another man she is getting mixed up with who doesn't really know her at all?

While You Were Sleeping is one of the sweetest movies I have ever seen. This movie is entirely based on a series of misunderstandings and hilarious situations. The movie features an all star cast including Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman, Peter Gallagher, Peter Boyle, and Jack Warden. Everyone was amazing in this film. I even liked Michael Rispoli as Joey Fusco Jr.

Lucy Eleanor Moderatz, played by Sandra Bullock, is a Chicago transit tollbooth worker. What Lucy most wants out of her life is a stamp in her passport and a reason to not work every holiday. She is also hopelessly besotted with daily commuter, Peter Callaghan, played by Peter Gallagher, whom she has never met.

Peter is a charming schmuck, but Lucy doesn't know this. One day after flashing his perfect white smile in her direction Peter gets mugged on the platform for the L train and falls onto the train tracks. Lucy saves him from certain death and follows him to the hospital.

wywsThere a nurse overhears Lucy dreaming aloud to herself and misinterprets. Lucy is ushered in to see Peter, but he is in a coma. Minutes later his family bustles in and the nurse introduces Lucy to them as Peter's fiancée. Oh boy! Now the fun starts!

Well you can imagine. The mother and father are hysterical in these moments. I love Peter Boyle as Ox Callaghan. Saul, the beloved sort of godfather, played by Jack Warden is a hoot and the grandmother Elsie played by Glynis Johns will leave you in stitches. Elsie sort of reminds me of Grandma Mazur in the Stephanie Plum novels, just crazy in a different way.

As the story spins out Bill Pullman playing as Peter's brother Jack is suspicious of Lucy. She is not his brother's type. Surprisingly both find themselves drawn to each other. Jack gets possessive and there's this whole scene about "The Lean." Loved it! But they're not supposed to be with one another as Lucy is Peter's fiancée.  Jack has a great scene with Peter in the hospital while Peter is still in his coma. Poor Jack!

Anyway the fun is watching Lucy navigate her way through muddy waters. She loves the Callaghan family and doesn't want to give them up and if she comes clean about who she it they won't want her anymore... not even Jack. Or so she thinks. Feel good fluff!
