by Carolyn Brown, guest blogger and author of Red's Hot Cowboy
Thank you for inviting me back to Love Romance Passion to celebrate the release of Red's Hot Cowboy which hit the ground running last week. I’m glad folks are still reading about hot cowboys and sassy heroines because that’s what Red's Hot Cowboy
has to offer. So thank you to all my readers who keep coming back for more and to Love Romance Passion for making me feel at home at their blog site!
And remember if you liked Love Drunk Cowboy (number 1 in the Spikes & Spurs series) and you like Red's Hot Cowboy
when you read it, there are more hot cowboys and sassy heroines on the way. Darn Good Cowboy Christmas
will be out in October; One Hot Cowboy Wedding in April 2012 and three more to follow after that.
Someone asked me if I had a recipe for creating the perfect cowgirl for my hunky sexy cowboys. I hadn’t thought about it like that but since cooking is one of my minor passions I expect that it could be described as a recipe.
So let’s create a perfect cowgirl, this time for Wil Marshall, a rancher up north of Henrietta, Texas. Maybe an excerpt here will let you know a little more about Wil so that you can understand the special job we’ll have in creating the perfect cowgirl to make him drop down on one knee.
He smiled and suddenly there was a whole orchestra behind the singer chanting about bad boys in Pearl’s head. He was bundled up in a worn leather bomber jacket with fleece lining that made his broad shoulders even wider and ended at a narrow waist, faded jeans that hugged a right fine butt that would’ve had her drooling if she hadn’t been so damn mad, and scuffed boots that made him a real cowboy and not the drugstore variety that was all hat and no cattle. His dog was sitting obediently beside him, looking up pitifully as if tattling on that abominable creature that had attacked him.
“Who in the hell is Delilah anyway, and what’s she got to do with all this commotion?” he asked in a deep Texas drawl.
“Delilah is my cat,” Pearl said.
“That is a good name for a she-devil like that thing. You got any rooms left for tonight? It looks like the parking lot is full, but the sign is still on.”
If only he could have had a high squeaky voice, but no, he had to be the complete bad boy package with that Texas drawl.
Okay, now that we’ve established that Wil is one sexy cowboy, let’s get busy and work see what we can do!
Preheat book to 500 degrees F. with a super hot cover that has a woman with gorgeous red hair and red boots. Add one sexy cowboy to hold her leg next to him and look at her like he could plant long lingering kisses on her lips.
Add a sassy attitude, a couple of extra measures of spunk, long red hair that begs for a man’s hands to touch it, green eyes and a determination to never, ever let a cowboy rope her into a dull life called marriage. Now stir that up and set it to one side.
Make a trip to the western wear store over in Nocona, Texas or the one in Wichita Falls and purchase some tight fittin’ jeans and a belt with a big silver buckle that will show off her rounded hips and small waist line. Look through the racks and find a nice tight T-shirt with some bling and glitter and yes, ma’am, one pair of red boots.
Now let Wil have a little taste and see if we’re making the right cowgirl. One little kiss…
He shut his eyes and leaned in for the kiss, barely connecting to her lips and sending a heat wave over the whole state when her damn cell phone caused her to jump backwards.
I do believe we got the temperature just about right when we heated up the front of that cover to 500 degrees.
He says that the raw dough tastes really good but now we’ve got to actually throw in some action to see if she’s going to be a real cowgirl or if she’s going back to those stiletto heels that she wore to her high powered corporate job.
So stir up the action. Give her some adverse situations while she’s getting used to those boots. Put her in a pickup truck and make sure there are lots of speed bumps in her pathway.
The cowboy took two steps and pushed through the swinging doors at the end of the counter. “All I want is a room, Red.”
“You call me Red again, Mister, and you won’t need one. What you’ll need is a pine box and a preacher to read about you lyin’ down in green pastures,” she said.
I do believe she’s ready to face the world and capture her own cowboy now. What do you think? Do we need to add anything? Maybe some really hot green eyes and a few freckles across her nose?

RED’S HOT COWBOY BY CAROLYN BROWN – IN STORES AUGUST 2011
He wasn’t looking for trouble…
But when the cops are knocking on your door, trouble’s definitely found you. And this is where Wil Marshal finds himself after checking into the Longhorn Inn. It could be all a big mistake, but Wil’s not getting much sleep. Then the motel owner—who is drop dead gorgeous and feisty to boot—saves him from an even worse night behind bars. Now he owes her one, bit time…
But trouble comes in all shapes and sizes…
Pearl never wanted that run-down motel, but her aunt didn’t leave her much choice. And then this steaming hot cowboy shows up looking for a place to rest. Next thing she knows, she wants to offer him more than just room service. But if he calls her Red one more time, he won’t be the only one accused of murder…
Sparks are definitely flying and before long, the Do Not Disturb sign might be swinging from the door…

Good mornin’ everyone! Come on in and let’s visit. Got questions? Comments? Want to know more about Pearl or Wil? Or maybe what’s coming next? Ask away…I’ll be here all day!
Oh, you did such a wonderful job with this, Carolyn! One of the things I’ve always love about your writing is your use of regional colloquial phrases. It makes me laugh and puts me in the scene/action.
“You call me Red again, Mister, and you won’t need one. What you’ll need is a pine box and a preacher to read about you lyin’ down in green pastures,” she said.
I loved Love Drunk Cowboy and I’ve been looking forward to Pearl’s story.
Readers, if you love a fun place to visit you have to pick up one of Carolyn’s books. I swear they’re real enough that if I could just find the map I could find the people.
Haven’t had a chance to read this one yet, but it’s on my To Buy list!
Sia McKye’s Thoughts…OVER COFFEE
Hi Sia,
Thank you for stopping by today. What a wonderful comment (that I can put you right into the book); it’s a writer’s dream to get a comment like that!
A map would reveal that the places are real, Sia. There really is a Terral, Oklahoma and they really grow tons of watermelons right there on the Red River. I was down there a couple of weeks ago for the Watermelon Jubilee and signed books all afternoon for them. There really is a Henrietta, Texas (Red’s Hot Cowboy) but the Longhorn Inn is straight out of my imagination. Got to admit the people down in that part of the country is right friendly but my characters are all fictional! LOL
Here’s hoping you like Pearl and Wil’s story as much as you did Austin and Rye’s!
What a great blog, Carolyn – love the recipe formula! You’ve got me hooked on cowboys – golly, I wish I had long red hair!
and given me insight into some neat little traits to add to my heroines. Thank you!
Can’t wait to read this one! Really enjoyed Love Drunk Cowboy.
Hi Estella,
Thank you so much for dropping by. Glad you enjoyed the beginning of Spikes & Spurs. There are more on the way! It started as a trilogy, grew to four when my editor asked for a Christmas book, then we added three more when Gemma, Dewar and Creed (Ace’s brother) kept bugging me to tell their stories, too!
“Red’s Hot Cowboy” sounds like such a fun book. I sense a lot of chemistry between these two and an also a lot of personality. It was just the red hot cowboy boots that told me this although I suspect those boots might come in handy in reining in a cowboy. I’m looking forward to meeting Wil and Pearl.
Hi Carolyn,
Bless that wonderful sense of humor. Preheat book to 500 degrees F, too funny.
I’m glad to say I’ve already met Wil and Pearl. And although I never spill the beans before my review goes live, I will say I loved New Year’s Eve! That’s all you’re getting from me.
On other wordly news, I wrote a post about my vacation titled, “City Gal Gone Country.” I’ll let you know when that goes live; I believe you’ll get a real kick out of reading it.
Hugs!!!!!
Hello Glenys,
Glad my recipe helped you “cook” your characters. Pearl was pretty hot! LOL
Hi Na,
Welcome to Henrietta, Texas where the cowboys are hot and the ladies sassy! Enjoy reading about Wil and Pearl!
Dammit Susan!
Now I’ll be biting my nails until your review comes out. After that last one, darlin’, I don’t know if I can stand it! Thank you for everything you do to promote me…appreciate you! That New Year’s scene was a hoot to write, btw!
Huge belly laughs. May I recommend keeping your hands in gloves in the interim?
The scene was a hoot to read.
As for appreciating, I’m sure readers everywhere will agree that authors entertain us, make us smile, laugh, oft times cry—depending on the story, but always bring us into their stories/their worlds. Everyone can always use a smile. Thanks for providing us with them!
It sounds like a fun story and I’m wondering why Wil has the cops at his door.
Maureen: A very small peek to answer your question…it’s a mixup of names which gets resolved but Pearl bails him out before she knows that it’s a mixup…
Carolyn Brown has been on my wishlist for a while. I would love the chance to read one of her books. The books sound like a lot of fun. Thanks for the giveaway.
