Digital reading devices get a lot of press so I'm curious, do you own one? I own a Kindle and I have a lot of good things to say about it.
How about you? Where do you stand?
*By the way a computer or laptop does not count as other.

Keira's favorite type of heroes are blind, scarred, and tortured... yes, she understands those should be separate, but all 3 at once is also nice! She enjoys historical romances best and adores audio books because great narrators turn books into auditory/mental movies (and she loves her romantic dramas like Pride and Prejudice/North and South!) I adore my Kindle. In the year after I bought it, I flat out refused to read anything that I couldn’t get in eformat. Unfortunately, thanks to the Agency pricing model, I’ve been forced to go back to reading used paperbacks to keep my budget under control. I hate reading paper books now. They are hard to hold, they smell musty, they don’t stay open on the table when I’m reading them, I can’t adjust the font size when my eyes get tired…. I could go on, but you get my drift LOL.
I have a Nook, and I love it. I only use it about 50% of the time I spend on reading, the rest of the time being spent reading print books. Mostly, I take my Nook when I’m on the go – it’s great for traveling and since it’s thinner than most books, great to keep in my purse to have on hand when I’m out and about.
I chose the Nook because (1) I hate Sony; and (2) I don’t like that the Kindle converts documents to a proprietary format. The Nook keeps everything as a PDF. I am a big proponent of open-source software and file formats, so the Nook was the natural choice over the Kindle. (The iPad did not exist when I bought my Nook, but as I don’t use Apple products, it would not have been an option anyway.)
I have a Sony. Since i bought it, i pretty much buy only on ebook format unless, it’s an auto-buy author whose work i can’t resist.
Like Jen, after the Agency pricing model if it’s not available in ebook…then it can wait until the price is a bargain or i get plenty of trusted recommendations.
Neat! That’s one owner of each so far. Will anybody ring in and share what they got?
JenM – There’s lot of free romance reads every month for Kindle. At least 1 new one every week. There’s an equal amount of Christian romance and erotica romance. Hardly any in between genres but free is free and fun, right?
Dorla – How’s a pdf look on the Nook? Kindle just came out with a zoom feature for pdfs. I wish I had a little more control with it because I would love to zoom say 110% instead of 150% which means half the page is cut off.
Rossy – I too am looking more and more into ebooks. I like being able to buy while on a roadtrip (which I did recently – so much fun!) in the middle of nowhere.
I’m late to the party, but I have an iPad and love it for so many reasons, but it is not the best e-reader. You can’t read it outside (due to glare AND easy overheating by the pool), it’s bigger than a Nook or Kindle, so while it’s not heavy per-se, the others seem more comfortable. But I love e-reading, so I’m considering getting a dedicated reader, though I hate not to use my iPad for the main reason I bought it.
That said, I agree with JenM, the pricing is out of control and I’m having to go back to buying used books which I now dislike reading (paper books, I mean, not because they’re used). And while Amazon gives away some freebies, I average a book a day (two or three on weekend days with nothing else going on), so I’ve blown through all of the freebies that would interest me at all on Amazon.
Kindle= instant gratification.
I am a Kindle lover! I call it my crack pipe, books are my crack and amazon is my dealer . I call free books Kindle Krack.
The only thing I miss about paperbooks is the covers. I love covers! But my ereader has let me get a hold of books I would never have known existed. I don’t like reading books on my iPad. It is too heavy. The kindle is just the right size and weight.
I have both a nook and a kindle. I love my kindle and use it 50% of the time. For budget reasons, I got a nook so I could check out books from overdrive at my library. But I have to say that the kindle is the easiest to use to download and shop for books.
Now for Christmas, I want to get an ipad since my apple computer is to big to take a long. I think the ipad will be the best of both worlds.
Cris-Better late than not at all, I always say. My sister-in-law has an ipad it’s pretty cool, but I adore my Kindle. When I’ve exhausted all the freebies, I move onto the 99 cent deals. Some are quite good! Even some well-known proficient authors are providing low ebook deals.
Estella-I’m with you 100%. We’re talking getting it within seconds.
Look! It’s Sharon the reviewer-I too own a Kindle. And what a wonderful healthy thing to be addicted to. “My name is Susan. And I am addicted to reading!” My eyes swell with tears. Tears of joy that is! You’re hilarious. Kindle Krack.
I keep debating whether or not to get the colored Nook. Maybe one day I’ll get it and let my kids keep my Kindle. Maybe.
Janice-Talk to me. Is the Nook worth my handing my Kindle over to the offspring? Re: the ipad, see #5 Chris’s comment.
