Keira: A naked, bareback, horse riding alien – okay what inspired that?! *nudges with elbow* Share the goods!
Cheryl Brooks: One of the traits I gave Jerden was his animal magnetism, and women aren’t the only ones susceptible to it. I knew there wouldn’t be much in the way of sexual heat until later in the book, so I needed a hook early on, and the whole no bridle, no saddle, no clothes thing is what I came up with—which is probably a deep-seated fantasy of mine.
Keira: Jerden, the hero of Wildcat, is the opposite of Dax, your virgin hero. Jerden is an ex brothel worker. Did he like his job or did all the sex make him jaded?
CB: Jerden enjoyed his job until the murder of Audrey, the brothel’s fluffer, nearly destroyed him. Since Zetithians have to smell the scent of a woman’s desire in order to function sexually, the guys working the brothel couldn’t service clients of every species. Audrey’s scent enables them to do that, but Jerden has unknowingly become imprinted with her scent. When Audrey is murdered by a deranged woman who wants her job, Jerden is riddled with guilt and unable to continue his work.
Keira: In the past, we’ve talked about The Sexual Prowess of Alien Romance Heroes, what sets Jerden apart from the rest of the males in his species?
CB: Okay. Picture the scrawny kid who sat next to you in math class versus Channing Tatum. Tall, muscular, handsome, and extremely charismatic, Jerden is the Channing Tatum of the Zetithian race.
Keira: What or who can tame a wildcat?
CB: Sara Shield is the only one who can tame this wildcat. She is an enigma–a human female who isn’t attracted to him—and his determination to teach her to love again heals them both.
Keira: Tell us about Terra Minor and why Sara Shield is on the planet.
CB: Terra Minor is a newly discovered planet settled by a wide range of intelligent species. Now designated as the Zetithian homeworld, it is largely rural with a great many wilderness areas remaining. Because of its relatively small human population, horse breeder/trainer Sara Shield has come there from Earth hoping to avoid interaction with human males while at the same time helping introduce horses to that world.
Keira: Give us three reasons to pick up Wildcat!
CB: Intense emotions, searing sexual heat, and fun secondary characters.
Keira: The three best and worst alien species in the Cat Star Chronicles are…
CB: The worst are Nedwuts, Herpatronians, and Rackenspries (which you will meet in book ten, Rascal). The best are Zetithians, Mordrials, and Norludians—but only if you like a good laugh. They’re kinda ugly!
Keira: If you had to choose, and really you must, tell us who your favorite Cat Star Chronicle couple is and why?!
CB: Jerden and Sara come close, and Tarq and Lucy (Stud) are definitely in the running, but I have to go with Cat and Jack (Slave). They were the first and are still the nearest and dearest to my heart. However, I may have to revise that opinion when Rascal comes out. Onca and Kim make a terrific pair!
Keira: Why will readers fall in love with Jerden and Sara?
CB: They’ve both been through traumatic experiences. This is their comeback story in which they find healing, love, and lasting joy.
Keira: I hear you have a 10th Cat Star Chronicle book coming out! Tease us about Rascal in 25 words or less!
CB: A former male prostitute rescues a homeless young woman and becomes enmeshed in her crusade to liberate other girls captured for use as sex slaves.
