Keira: What does it take to be fearless?
Tawny Weber: Hmm, I’d say a really good drink. I have a recipe for a FEARLESS Martini on my website that, after two, should remove all fear. All feeling from one’s toes, too. Okay, just kidding, although many of my most fearless moments have included a good drink.
I think being fearless means facing whatever makes you want to run. In the case of Gia in this story, she’s afraid to take the risk of getting in trouble at work by sparking an affair with someone she works with. But more, she’s afraid of being rejected. Luke has a rep as the hottest guy in the office and he can have any gal he wants. In her mind, at least, that means she’s out of the running. So instead of my delicious FEARLESS Martini, she turns to her Girlz and a makeover to turn herself into her version of a Fearless woman.
Keira: What are your thoughts on dating in the workplace? Are the rules antiquated or pertinent?
Tawny: Ooh, this is a tough one. I’m not a big fan of rules as a rule so my first reaction is to let people decide for themselves if they can handle it. But, realistically, so many people are better at making bad choices that lead to issues in the workplace than they are at handling them smoothly that I can understand the need for such a rule. I doubt I’d personally follow it, but I’m pretty sure I’d regret that choice if the romance blew up in my face.
Which I think is why it makes for such great fiction. Rules like that are simply made to be broken between the pages of a romance novel, and they create such a fabulous setup for conflict and tension for our characters.
Keira: How does a girl (your heroine in particular) become a seductress?
Tawny: By tapping into her own fantasies. Once she was able to create in her mind what being a seductress meant—right down to how she dressed and looked—she could throw herself into that role. But it had to be her fantasy. I think that was the key, that by first deciding on the most seductive person she could imagine, then becoming that person, Gia was tapping her own fantasies and turning herself on first. Which meant she was totally committed to the seduction—as well as being even more alluring to Luke. Because a woman who believes she’s sexy and seductive is able to do so much more—and get the guy to do so much more—than if she’s worried and doubtful about her sex appeal.
Keira: What is the craziest thing you've done in Vegas?
Tawny: Oh my. I’ve lived in Vegas on and off since my pre-teen years, so there is a lot of crazy to choose from. I think I’m going to have to go with the birth of my first child. She was born in a garage just off the strip that’d been converted into a Birthing Center, and the midwife was an ex-showgirl--complete with beehive and blue eye shadow. To this day, I feel a little bad that that image was the first thing my daughter saw on her way out of the womb.
