I think people are so much more interesting the older they get. Also, I think the HEA is more realistic because as people gain experience, they (hopefully) become much more aware of what it will take to actually make them happy. In which I immediately thought, 'I've always loved this author, but I loved her because of the romance in her books'...It's fine, if one prefers a mystery, but what's wrong with having the two together in a book?
