Like they were trying way too hard. Dear XXX is fine, there is no need for flowery language and use of the word lush or ardent for me. Simple and sincere language works. I'm quite happy with odd stick figure drawings of a man holding a heart or a short note to "My Love" that he's gone out to get coffee, signed "Your Man".
