In a nutshell The Ugly Truth embodies the gender war theme. It is one of the best the Battle of the Sexes movies that I've seen and can recall off the top of my head.
The movie is about a narcotic television producer, Abby Richter, and a snarky television personality, Mike Chadway. They butt heads until Mike comes up with a deal Abby can’t refuse. He will help her nail Mr. Perfect and when he does she will work with him instead of against him. If he fails, well he’ll quit the show. It’s a win-win as far as she’s concerned. That is until the 'completely unexpected' occurs.
The movie is fast, witty, and filled with cute/silly moments. I would definitely recommend this film for those that love romantic comedy. The only caution I throw out is the sexual humor which makes this film rated R instead of the usual PG-13 we see with romantic comedies.
Example: Katherine Heigl as Abby does an admirable performance on screen in the tradition of Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally. You should see Gerard Butler’s face during that scene because it’s priceless!
For a movie that has Gerard Butler, I do have one complaint. I know, I know! How is this possible? The movie even had Gerard showing off some sexy dance moves toward the end. I should have no complaints.
Well, I do and I complain because of the declaration scene. It was perfect on Gerard’s part. He had great lines and a perfect set up – no doubt your heart will pitter-pat like mine did.
The truth is I wanted more from Katherine’s character. Her side was flat and unrewarding. She didn’t argue the major point in her favor and she completely fails to say those three magical words. A jump your bones kiss does not equal happily ever after. If I were Gerard I wouldn’t budge until she had said them and sounded like she meant them.

Great recap. I loved this movie, very funny, though I agree about Katherine Heigl’s part in the end. Wish it would have been a little sappier, but still a good time. I plan on getting my own copy, so admire Gerard whenever I want
I really like this movie too. The humor is raunchy, though!
I had a sore stomach for two days after seeing this. Completely agree about Butler’s reaction during the dinner scene. Seemed like he was really busting one, no acting needed.
It seemed as though Heigl started the movie as one character and suddenly became another. She went from the typical heroine she usually plays and suddenly became daffy. Approved of the change, it really worked for her and amped up her chemistry with Butler, but it was just something that bugged me.
