According to Dictionary.com, a ritual is a pattern of behavior regularly performed in a set manner. In this post, I’m going to share my reading rituals with you and hope you’ll share yours with me. O.k. I’m a curious cat, spill the beans. What do you do before you read? Read on to see what I do.
First, I wait until my kids fall asleep. Translation: While awake it’s hard to read with their incessant chatter. Honestly, I have no idea who they get that from. (Evil grin)
Then I brew those coffee beans, provided I’m going to stay up late. I add the usual: creamer, vanilla, sugar, a heavy serving of whipped cream & chocolate syrup. Oh yeah! I’m a real McCafe. If my little devil tempts me, which happens more often than not; I’ll add a scoop of ice cream. When little d starts that incessant chatter thing like my kids, I add sprinkles. LOL
Still with me? Good, because this is the hardest part. Which book & which format do I choose? Do I read my Kindle, my TBR e-books on my laptop or the print paperbacks giving me the evil eye? Should I read the next installment by my fav author or the new author that pricked my curious cat ears? Decisions, decisions.
Once that’s resolved, I’ll don my purple fuzzy socks and smear on my green facial mask. I’ll read until my coffee runs out, my face cracks or my eyes close without my permission. That’s it! Then I repeat again the following day. Let’s hear it readers, am I the last of my kind? The only coffee drinking, purple socked, green faced reading monster out there. If you are my long lost cousin, raise that coffee cup!

I have a couple of reading rituals.
My most prominent one is curling up in bed under two fuzzy blankets at night with a light on so I can read my latest TBR, occasionally a reread, sometimes an ARC.
I usually stay awake until sometime after midnight, but never later than 2 AM.
If I’m not in bed reading, I’m in the bathtub taking a soak and enjoying dozens of scented bubbles, potentially candles too, but most likely just the bubbles. I stay in for hours, letting cold water out and hot water in and I don’t get out until I’m all pruney and waterlogged.
But hopefully not my books! lol
I like your reading rituals Keira; I’m still not daring enough to carry a book into the bathroom though. My books are sacred. (LOL)
I love rereads, my favs are “Counter-Parry” by Freda Michel copyright 1977 & the “Count of Monte Cristo” by A. Dumas.
I’m currently reading one of Katiebabs, Jenna D., and Ann Aguirre’s favorites: Courting Miss Hattie. I’m to watch out for Peaches (pg 212 I’m told!) and be wary of the smoochy-smooch (which is as icky as it sounds).
My daily escape involves a hot bath with aromatherapy & chromatherapy using LUSH products, a good book and cup of coffee or hot tea.
Susan, my cup is in the air!
Keira, have you tried the Henri Bendel vanilla bean candles? They smell wonderful.
Ok…my reading ritual…to be honest w/you the only sequal I have been into is Twilight. I’m not a big reader…due to the fact that I am still in school so what I read is b/cuz I have to…lol.
Well I love to read my Twilight in bed right before I go to sleep. I get into my comfy pajamas (in the winter…I were my heavy duty froggy socks…it’s so cold here in Kansas), a glass of hot choclate milk, grab my 4 legged pooch and head for the bed (while the hubby is playing x-box 360). This is my alone time.
I snuggle up w/the pooch and begin reading…until I start falling asleep. It relaxes me at night =)
I know it’s not a big ritual like the rest of you big readers, but it’s something. thx for reading!!!
I had my reading rituals when I was in high school (do not want to give my age away, but I graduated the year Robert Redford directed the film Ordinary People, a novel by Judith Guest)., so if anyone out there is a big reader, might guess my age.
Today, I am guilty of not reading, but my favorite is romance novels.
I definitely enjoy reading with a good cup of Starbucks coffee…LOL
Hi Vany, thanks for sharing. Froggy socks(how cute) & chocolate milk sounds yummy.
Hi Maria, you actually had me looking up Redford’s movie & using my computer calculator.( funny)
You can always start new reading rituals or one day recapture the ones from your high school years.
Thanks for sharing, did I hear Starbuck’s: I’ll have a vanilla bean frapuccino please.(yum)
