Lydia Dare’s A Certain Wolfish Charm has bite, and so do the Westfield brothers!
A Certain Wolfish Charm is book one from Lydia Dare’s debut werewolf trilogy. It brings us the story of the eldest of the Westfield brothers, Simon, the Duke of Blackmoor.
The Duke has a few character flaws: he gambles, visits bawdy houses, has a horrid temper, and then there’s that…other problem, he becomes even more irritable as the full moon approaches. This is exactly why he’s determined to be a lone bachelor and never marry. A rake of the highest order, you’ll want to slap him a few times; the heroine does. Yet, he’s also a rich, sexy, alpha male, you’ll want to kiss him; the heroine does.
Heroine, Lily Rutledge has been raising her nephew Oliver York, the Earl of Maberley since the death of his parents. She’s been doing a fine job until now. Lately, Oliver’s become an irritable 12 year old, the smallest annoyances set him off. Hoping his guardian, Simon Westfield will help, she pays him a visit. Lily’s never sought out his assistance before, so she’s confounded with his refusal to help. What she doesn’t realize, is the moon’s drawing near, and her beauty is stirring the beast within.
When Oliver discovers Simon’s secret, he’s determined to protect his Aunt Lily. One night, Lily hears the call of a lone wolf, but is she strong enough to resist?
Favorite romantic moment: Lily blows a kiss at Simon from across the table, and he…
Favorite comedic moment: Simon’s been drinking and is completely and utterly…foxed. Lily steps on a piece of glass, as he examines her foot, he tells her, “Let the doctor work, will you?” page 101.
Favorite characters (2): Simon and his mother Alice. I love Simon; he’s a sexy mysterious wolf. Brace yourself, I rarely empathize with a female character, but I loved Alice. She loves her wolves and wants the best for her children. She befriends Alice and gives her the cutest gift at the end of the story…Alice won my heart.
