Aphrodite CallingReviewed by Sandra Scholes

The Epic Story: At times some people need guidance, a man to help them out, and in Gina's case it's a god, Himeros, a god of sexual desire. Since she was you, Gina was born with male genitals, and had to live life as a boy growing up at school, but now that there is the opportunity to see her old school friends at a reunion party, she has her doubts that they will accept her as she is now.

Mortal: Gina needs to know how beautiful a woman she is, and there is only one way she can experience it after feeling so unloved and strange to all around her – with new man Himeros who later reveals he is actually a god of sexual desire which she needs right now. Before he came along she was unsure of her beauty, her desire, of love, sensuality, passion, and self-confidence. Only she knows the true woman within.

Immortal: If anyone can give Gina what she wants, it’s Himeros as he can help her feel what it is like to be a beautiful woman in a world of conformity. As an erote, he has the ability to have her see things from her own perspective, that she can be a true woman without regretting her decisions. He finds also that he is meant to be with her as they have so much in common, and he has a desire to be with someone who has human experiences he doesn’t.

Raunchy Review: Gina's life has been a living nightmare of rejection and loneliness, so Himeros who has had a similar experience through his eternal life sees something of him in her, and takes her under his wing. He too has dealt with prejudice and dislike, so he wants to give her an opportunity to feel what it is like to love and feel loved. These two are the perfect couple, true lovers who have gone far beyond what others thought was acceptable, yet desired to break those boundaries.

Afterthoughts: This is an impressive look at the life of a transsexual woman wanting to live the life she had always imagined might not be possible. Her struggle with prejudice and lack of acceptance from others has her strive to be more than others think she could be.

Sandra delights in immersing herself in anything period romance, says that supernatural romance novels have a tendency to grasp her in a way that some don't, and thinks GLBT romances have that extra something and show a different way of how people of the same sex find love and try to keep it. She likes a wide variety of novels and is interested in reading stories, and in some cases, the shorter the better. Romance of all genres can keep her interest, but she finds that the Regency period is one of her firm favourites. Learn more about Sandra in her Reader Highlight.

Wow, what an unusual heroine. I love that romance has come so far as a genre that this book could be written. It sounds really interesting. Thanks for reviewing it!
