Writing paranormal romance that captivates her reader’s seems to come easier then breathing for author J.R.Ward and her Black Dagger Brotherhood stands up to the challenge. A paranormal world set in present day New York, in the fictional town of Caldwell, provides a modern backdrop for the ongoing war between the vampire race and the evil Lessening Society.

The members of the brotherhood diligently patrol the streets of Caldwell fighting the Lessers that endanger their kind. While patrolling the streets and keeping the members of their race safe one by one the warriors find much more then they were looking for. There is a new level of danger creeping into their lives and these woman are poised to change their very being as they claim their hearts and beds.

Lover Awakened is the third book in this bestselling series. It follows Zsadist, a self-deprecating brother who’s rough physical exterior appears to match his calloused and cold interior. A brother known for his love of danger and destruction, Zsadist is not the romantic type and flowers and candy are not something that any girl would expect from the broken vampire.

His past holds many monsters that have made him the male that he is today and he dares anyone to try and break him. Though the men of the brotherhood keep their distance and the newer members of the brothers’ household (the Shellans aka wives of Wrath and Rhage) fear him, there is one who female who will do anything to break the warrior and claim him as her own, Bella.

From the first moment she meets the scarred brother Bella is immediately drawn to him. His face shows marks of battle and an air of menace surrounds the man, but Bella is captivated. She has heard the stories of his rough sexual tendencies, but she still fantasizes about being in his bed. She will put it all on the line, her life, her place in the princeps council (vampire aristocracy) and the respect of her brother Rehvenge to have Zasadist as her own, her mate.

***This book is a phenomenal read from cover to cover. There is never a lull in the action or the romance as J.R. Ward draws you into the dangerous world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. The storyline is creative and it makes you long for the love of this brother yourself. Your sympathy boils to the surface when you learn of Zsadist’s past and your respect for his character grows with each decision he makes. The sexual encounters are just as hot as the brother’s themselves. This is a definite must read for any paranormal romance fan***

I’m going to have to concur, Mandy’s review was nicely done! So many readers have sang Ward’s praises, that I’m going to have to move her up on my TBR list. I’m wondering if her novels are dark reads, on the same level as Sherrilyn Kenyon’s?

Susan, I would have to say that if you enjoy Sherrilyn Kenyon you will enjoy J.R. Ward. Though their writing styles differ they have a way of building a more realistic, paranormal world that captivates readers.

Thank you for the positivity regarding my review :)

Thanks for the clarification Mandy, duly noted. And yes, I do enjoy Kenyon. She happens to be one of my top three authors.
