Review: One Fine Cowboy by Joanne Kennedy

Nate Shawcross is about to find out that on top of his ex-girlfriend running off with all of his money, that she also stole from complete strangers. She hoodwinked several people into paying for a clinic taught by Wyoming’s famous “Horse Whisperer” and took their down payments with her when she ran. He first learns about this clinic he’s supposed to teach when he finds a beautiful woman stranded on his property.
Charlie Banks hates cowboys on principle. As a card-carrying, once arrested member for PETA and a vegetarian to boot, she has little patience for the “Horse Whisperer.” If there was any way to do another graduate project she would, but since she can’t she must learn about interspecies nonverbal communication and figure out how to apply it to humans. When Nate tells her there wasn’t ever any clinic and her car breaks down, Charlie is prepared to get the hell out of dodge any which way she can.
A bit confusing: The female S names. Sandi. Sadie. Sam. But mostly the first two. Pay attention or you might wind up like me and having to comb back to the beginning to figure out who’s the ex-girlfriend, who’s the boss, and who’s the kid.
Lots of cute moments: I particularly enjoyed the nesting in the bunkhouse, grooming Junior, and painting a macho actor’s nails bright fuchsia.
Recommendations: If you’re in the mood for an unusual hero—a hero who is shy and introverted compared to the usual alpha—a hero who is more comfortable with horses than people. The poor bloke can hardly string a couple of sentences together without blushing which isn’t helped by his interest in the heroine’s fancy panties.
