Sweet EnemyReviewed by Lynn Reynolds

Liliana Clarement is a very smart woman for the time period she lives in. She’s just coming in the door when she hears something in the library. Cleaning the library, Liliana finds something interesting. Now the intrigue begins.

Location: Shropshire, April 1817

Geoffrey Wentworth is an earl who is seen in the drawing room with his family. His mother, Genevieve Wentworth (Lady Stratford) and his uncle Joss want something from him. Both his mother and uncle have decided that he needs to host a house party. Then fate steps in.

Liliana ends up at the Wentworth house (Somerton Park) with her cousin, Penelope, and her aunt, Eliza. They have been invited to this house party. We find out that both Liliana and Geoffrey make the perfect pair. Neither wants a match but every time they are together you can just about feel the sparks between them. When Geoffrey describes Liliana you can see the admiration he has for her.

Liliana makes a wager, in front of everyone, and I can’t wait to see the outcome. For someone who doesn’t want to draw attention to herself, she’s actually doing the opposite. It makes me wonder if she’s trying to find favor with Geoffrey. I’ll have to keep reading to find out.

I like how Heather builds the relationship between our two main characters. During that time in history, men had the duty to marry. She made Liliana to be an intelligent woman who could put her smarts to good use especially where Geoffrey is concerned. Neither character is concerned with duty.

Liliana doesn’t change herself to impress anyone. She stays true to herself. Geoffrey however seems to be changing. Maybe Liliana is softening him. We see that both of them are trying to solve a mystery. Instead of working against each other, they will need to work together.

The suspense is building. Two fathers are dead – will this tear our lovers apart or bring them together to solve the mystery. The suspense goes almost to the very end of the book. You will not be disappointed.

I love how Heather gives us some chemistry lessons as the story goes on. I find it fascinating how Liliana uses science to help people. She’s changing the perception that people have that this is something that only men would have knowledge of.

At one point, Geoffrey tells Liliana that she needs to have patience but I think he’s actually speaking to the reader. He’s showing both her and the reader what passion is all about. Then we’re both left wanting more.

This is not an erotic tale but a very sensual ride that will have you coming back for more. You’ll want to see what Heather has in store for you in her next book. The book titled Sweet Deception will be coming out in August.

You will want to make sure that you read the “Author’s Note”. Heather gives the reader insight into how she developed the story. If you read this first, you will shortchange yourself. Please make sure you wait and read it last. I think you will find that this is a series you will be happy to follow.

Lynn is what you might call an equal opportunity romance reviewer. She'll read just about anything as long as it sounds like a great read and is full of romance. She currently works at a library and likes best that she can read on the job! She's also getting to read some new authors that she's never read before. She has also recently been accepted by the "Library Journal" as a reviewer of romance!!!
