Terrific post, Jaime! I'm not familiar with most of those movies - I'm not familiar with most movies after the 80s, I just tend to rewatch my favorites, LOL - but I loved Reality Bites. I had such a crush on Ethan Hawke way back when. :)

Hmm, my favorite kind of hero? I'm quite fond of Spike from Buffy. I'd rather have a hero on the odd side, with his share of angst. I like me some quirks. :)

Jaime, you know heroes are my favorite subject ;). I love them all, truth be told, as long as they're fierce in their passion and willing to move the world for their heroine. If he's a little tormented? All the better!

Great post!

Hi Isabel ;)

Truth be told, I haven't been able to get on FB as much as I'd like. When I do, I try to say hello to everyone, but it's not easy.

Thanks for commenting ;)

Ah, so that's why you made that comment on my facebook status yesterday! HA!

It's true about Ash & Bruce Campbell, you do root for him based on his character and the movie. It wouldn't work in another movie or even with another character. You truly do need the perfect character for a specific part. I haven't seen Atonement, wasn't a fan of the book, but I've heard great things about it.

I like a hero that's on the goofy side. He's always so close to saying the right thing but then his foot goes right into his mouth. He *almost* saves the heroine, but then he falls all over himself and the heroine has to save him. One of my favorites is Derik from Mary Janice Davidson's "Derik's Bane." This guy is just so much fun - werewolf, a little clueless, has a secret crush on Rachel Ray. His bedroom technique leaves a lot to be desired at first, but it's more endearing than anything else.

I also have a weakness for a hero that's kind of crazy. A genuine mental disorder or the subject of a government experiment, etc. Every scene is lacking without his presence because if he's done well he's so compelling. The best example I can think of is from Iris Johansen's "Killer Dreams."
