Thank you so much for having me back at Love Romance Passion, Keira. It’s one of my favorite places to be! I do hope you and your readers enjoy the following post I put together for my upcoming release, The Fire Lord’s Lover, book one in my brand new series, The Elven Lords:

Reason Number Ten: He lives in a magical eighteenth century England, where seven elven lords rule with the power of their scepters. Dominic is a half-breed, with enough elven blood to make him beautiful…and deadly. He lives with forbidden secrets, a Rebellion determined to destroy the elven lords, mysterious dragons, deliciously dark desires and a world ruled by the pageantry of the era, where only the strongest love can prevail.

Reason Number Nine: If you love tortured heroes, you’ll fall in love with Dominic. Fearful of his growing magical powers, his father has tested him with fire since he was a lad. His father destroyed anyone that Dominic ever loved, forcing Dominic to become very, very scarred…and to isolate himself emotionally from others.

Reason Number Eight: If you love arranged marriages, you’ll enjoy the budding relationship between Dominic and his assassin bride, Lady Cassandra Bridges. Dominic needs a wife to breed a new champion, and Lady Cassandra seems the perfect choice. But what he doesn’t know is that the convent she grew up in taught her more than how to be a proper wife—the Rebellion secretly trained her as an assassin to murder his father.

Reason Number Seven: Dominic is scarred because at his very core, he has a heart too gentle for the world he was born in. It will take some time for you to uncover the true man beneath his hard-won defenses, but the most difficult challenges are often the most gratifying.

Reason Number Six: He is a military man, with the proud bearing and the authoritative manner of a general…and a champion of the elven war games. Most of the time you will find Dominic in velvet black clothing, a sword at his side, a black cloak billowing behind him.

Reason Number Five: His best friend and confidant is a dragon.

Reason Number Four: He’s an elven half-breed, which means he has the beauty of the elven with the heart and soul of a human. He possesses strength and stamina beyond an ordinary man’s, which means he has never known a woman that he couldn’t satisfy.

Reason Number Three: Dominic is different than your run-of-the-mill hero. He has long thick white-blond hair, with the silver sparkle of the elven lords. He has midnight black eyes, faceted like jewels, a face that resembles an archangel’s but a devilishly delicious mouth. Lustrous skin over a graceful muscular frame hardened by battle. And pointed ears. Adorable, pointed ears.

Reason Number Two: His magical gift is fire. There are several levels of fire magic that he has inherited from his father. The white, which is cold and harmless. The blue fire, which can heal. The red that burns powerfully and the neutral gray that creates an impenetrable wall. And then there is the yellow, which is gently warm against the skin and can be crafted to resemble anything he can imagine. He can play it like a musician can play an instrument…aah, what Dominic can do with yellow fire…

And the Number One Reason you will fall in love with Dominic is: He’s so incredibly addictive, like your favorite candy bar. You will long for just one more bite.

It’s pretty obvious that I fell in love with my hero from The Fire Lord’s Lover. Is there a particular reason that appeals to you? Or what do you look for in romance heroes? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and I’ll be checking in today to respond to any comments.

My magical best,

Kathryne

THE FIRE LORD’S LOVER BY KATHRYNE KENNEDY—IN STORES JULY 2010

Kathryne Kennedy's historical fantasy romances have garnered awards and a growing readership. This exciting new series, set against the lavish backdrops of Georgian and Victorian England so beloved by romance readers, is deliciously dark and exciting.

Fighting for control of a kingdom that is split into seven domains, Elven warlords use their human slaves to breed an endless supply of soldiers for their armies. Dominic Raikes, the half-blood son of the Elven Lord himself is one such warrior. Betrothed to Lady Cassandra, who has been raised in a convent to keep her pure, he little suspects that she's been secretly trained as an assassin to murder his father. Dominic and Cassandra soon discover that each one is not what they seem, but the price of trust may be their very lives, and the destruction of the magical realm each is desperately trying to save…

Hi Kathryne,

I love your Top 10 list, I especially like Reasons 9, 7, 6 & 5! A tortured, scarred, military man who is best buds with a dragon. I envy your creativity.

I confess that while I am a voracious historical romance reader I am a newbie to the fantasy element. The Fire Lord’s Lover sounds wonderfully adventurous & passionate. I definitely want to get my hands on this one.

Thanks for blogging!

Those are all great reasons to fall in love with Dominic. Number 9, 7, and 5 are really good, but I’m partial to #3. Blond, muscular, jewel-like eyes, and pointed ears…I’d swoon for sure!

Hi Kathryne. I love your list. The Fire Lord’s Lover sounds good.

I like reason number 2. I’ve always been fascinated by fire, being a fire sign – Aries. It would be great to read about what this hero can do with fire!!

Enjoy your day and hope many more readers join in here!

Katheryne, I am so glad to hear you have a new series started & THE FIRE LORD’S LOVER, book 1 of the series is out. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I have read:
BENEATH THE THIRTEEN MOONS, DOUBLE ENCHANTMENT, ENCHANTING THE BEAST & ENCHANTING THE LADY.
I enjoyed reading every one of them. I know this series will be 1 that will be hard to put down once I start reading it.
Reading your reasons is just making it so I want to get started reading the book now. However I haven’t found it at any of the stores around here yet. I’ll keep looking.

I already ordered the book from bn.com, so don’t enter me in the contest.

I am really looking forward to reading it–it has so many elements that appeal to me. I do love a tortured hero and one with magical power and pointed ears is even better. The wife who is more than she seems at first sounds intriguing and who can resist a dragon?

Wishing you big sales!

thank you!

Your discriptions of the hero have really drawn me into this hero/story. I have also never read any fantasy stories, although I do love historicals, but your discriptions makes me want to read it.

15 JenM July 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM

I initially thought this was a fantasy, but it went on my wishlist as soon as I read the synopsis. A tortured and scarred hero who plays with fire and whose best friend is a dragon – wow, it has just moved to the top of the list (and then you had to mention the pointy ears! LOL).

So what made you decide to make elves your lead characters?

Ok, I have to be honest when I say this. You had my attention at the words elfin lord. I’ve always had a thing for guys with pointed ears!

As for the reasons why I think I’ll like this book I’m particularly fond of reasons 1,3,5,7,9, and10. Reason nine is a particular favorite of mine, never met a tortured hero I didn’t like!

I personally think that elves or sidhe spend much time in the literary spotlight, hope fully this book will start a trend!

Good luck with it!

Congrats on the release Kathryne… wonderful book.

Dom sounds very interesting, to say the very least :)

What I look for in a hero is someone who knows who he is and isn’t affraid of himself or his emotions. I want someone who has enough strength to go after what he wants, but also isn’t so dominating that he crushes the spirits of those around him.

I don’t want much really … just the perfect man LOL

I look forward to reading Dom’s story though :)
